I think you'll find if you work out the Maths that the only way that Gethin could avoid being in the bottom two was if Alesha got the lowest public vote.

Gethin was very popular, he was never in the bottom 2 until last Saturday. He could have easily come top with the public, but because he was at the bottom of the leaderboard he needed Alesha to come bottom with the public. If Gethin came top, Alesha 2nd and Matt 3rd with the public, which this seems as though it could be the case, I think Alesha will win.

His Internet 'hits' doubled in the last two weeks as the bookies odds on his winning went from 12-1 to 10/11 in the same period.

'Hitwise" predictions give a good indication of popularity, and he was the most searched for celebrity in Strictly Come Dancing during that period.

I would be very surprised indeed if he didn't top the public vote.

Thing is there's no way to tell, Gethin could of got ten times the amount of votes as everyone else or he could of come bottom with the public. Bookies odds and forums don't really mean anything, look at the X-Factor.

You can't predict reality TV show votes from bookies odds, either. I've watched enough BB to know that.

In actual fact, someone did a round up on the weekend of most watched youtube SCD performances - and bizarrely Gethin wasn't even in the top 10. (I expected him to be).

Precisely my point. And I did exactly the same - having never voted on the show before.

It's odd and if the public voting is to mean anything then surely for Semi and Final stages should just go by that method.
The judges should have been able save good dancers in favour of poor ones (should be the key word here) in the earlier rounds but leave the most meaningful shows just to us. Then if our favourites leave we have no one to blame but ourselves.

At least then Len/Arlene or Bruno don't have so much impact on the votes.

Right so Gethin fans accepted the fact hes at the bottom? I hardly think so they would be more determined to turn the leaderboard on its head. Its safe to say Gethin won the public vote

I`m not saying he didnt come top It`s when people say they`re `almost certain` and `could` that confuses me.
No-one actually knows.

What does worry me though, IF <> Gethin was topping the polls this & last week, Matt D obviously beat Alesha in the public vote last week, so going by that reckoning, the votes last week had Gethin, Matt and then Alesha in that order.

Now if this week the public voting figures were the same < the judges were not to know that Alesha would beat Matt in this weeks public vote> It would have them all on 4 pts each with Matt/Alesha in the dance off.

Now, who would they have saved in that scenario ?
Matts waltz scored better than Aleshas QS and we all know the judges base their decision on the dance off

There was an upset like this on ADWD when Daniel Boys was voted out. However he has gone on to greater things. Concert with Bryn Terfel etc, part in Avenue Q and something else I cannot remember. He is doing fine.

Public are fickle and the only thing we know for sure is that Matt beat Alesha last week and she beat him this week.

They may well have done but a little research would have shown that this was a blip and that both she and Gethin are more popular than Matt.

I can't imagine that the judges weren't given a heads-up on the vote percentages for all the weeks leading up to the semi. There might have been the odd blip here and there with some contestants going up or down in the public vote but I suspect, overall, trends were pretty established.

I suspect they would've suddenly decided to take previous performances and consistency into account when deciding who was going out. You're right, though; by giving Matt 40 they made it very difficult for themselves in the dance off. It would've been farcical if Matt had gone through above Aleisha after totally falling apart in both dances last week.

That`s where I can sympathise with the Gethin fans.

I'm a little surprised that people are so sure that Gethin topped the public vote. I'd say it was almost certainly Alesha - people are almost always safe after they've been in the dance off because their supporters all pick up the phone and vote (some of them quite frantically). This is even more the case with Alesha, who has a LOT of supporters. Gethin fans, while understandably worried, wouldn't have had quite that level of panic because he hadn't been in the bottom 2 yet. Then combine that with posters on here saying that they didn't vote this week (despite voting weeks before) because he was at the bottom of the leaderboard and it'd be pointless, and you have Alesha #1 easily.

Remember, what happened the week before does not mean it will happen again. If you want to go by statistics - last week was Matt-Gethin-Alesha. This week we know Alesha was higher than Matt. You could just as easily twist those figures to 'assume' that it was Alesha-Matt-Gethin. I don't think that was the case, but for all you know it could be. You can't use past positions as an indication.
