Derm O’Deary's Killer wish - The Sun

X FACTOR host Dermot O’Leary shocked bosses by admitting he wanted American band The Killers to get the Christmas No1.

The winner of the ITV1 talent show has taken the festive top spot for the past two years – meaning champ Leon Jackson is in line this year.

But Dermot announced during his Radio 2 show that he preferred The Killers’ Don’t Shoot Me Santa.

And his wish may yet come true after a glitch meant thousands could not download Leon’s single.

Music giant Sony BMG struck a deal to sell the song, When You Believe, on iTunes from midnight on Saturday.

Welsh ban ... Leon

Then the download link crashed, with red-faced Apple blaming too many requests. The firm was not able to get it running until Sunday afternoon – potentially costing Leon tens of thousands of crucial sales.

X Factor chief Simon Cowell went ballistic on hearing of the fault.

He said: “I’m extremely frustrated and disappointed by this massive cockup. But hopefully this won’t stop Leon getting a Christmas No1.”

The debut single by last year’s winner, Leona Lewis, was downloaded 50,000 TIMES in the first half hour.

Meanwhile, five Welsh radio stations have banned Leon’s single amid claims votes for hometown favourite Rhydian Roberts could not get through jammed lines.

Dermot was quite clear - well as clear as he could be - that he wasn't a fan of the single.

The iTunes thing is embarrassing. I wonder how many 'spur of the moment' sales that cost Leon?

Oh and Apple "It just works" LOL!

The Leon download on iTunes wasnt working for most of Sunday. Far too much demand and they couldnt cope with it.

Anything to stop Leon getting to number 1 is good enough for me

At least now we know what caused the problem.

And just because Dermot is a fan of the Killers it doesn't mean he is anti-Leon. In fact he very much likes him.

Brace yourself for one final X Factor disappointment of the year.

Still, I thank you for being Leon's lucky mascott this series, albeit unwittingly.

I've got a feeling we will hear more of these stories during the week.

Just in case Leon doesn't get the No 1.

And this isn't a biased post. I think it would be the same if SD or Rhydian had won.

I just think there is a backlash happening against X Factor winners.

Who give a fig about what Dermot wants!

Pity about the cock-up with the downloads, Simon should sue the pants of those incompetent fools.

But it isnt a story. ITunes did crash because of demand. The Leon download wasnt working on there for most of Sunday. Leon will still get the number one spot anyway.

If Dermot said that he wanted The Killers to get to Number 1rather than the X Factor finalist, he should be sacked from the X Factor. He should be supporting the hand that feeds him. If not, he should get back to Big Brother.

I'd rather him be honest personally than support a single he doesn't believe in.

Maybe they should sack Ferne as well then she said she wanted Shaun The Sheep at number one while her co-presenter on the charts Reggie Yates wants Andy Williams at number one it seems people like Leon but don't like the song

If only Simon would do us a favour and sack Dermot and bring back Kate - she would never have undermined the winner like this. And by the way - can't we lose the dreadful Fearne Cotton too!

No, Kate wouldn't have uttered an opinion and the public would have slated her for it.

I seriously doubt people are that lazy or that spontaneous that they wont drift back on to Itunes again to download the single......
its hardly going to cost him loads!

because Kate has no opinion (that she is allowed to utter).. she reads

a u t o c u e

and Dermot doesn't

Don't be stupid. Every presenter in the world reads the autocue. It's always there, not just for certain people. The difference is in how they use it.

And I don't see why you Dermot fans are so high and mighty. He may be good, but it's not like his X-Factor presentation is original.

I was pleasantly surprised to read that Dermot in his weekend show wanted the Killers song to reach number one and not Leon.

Well done Dermot.
