The big Christmas food shop...done yours yet?
Today, mother, nan and I embark on our traditional yearly Christmas food shop. Hopefully, we'll all make it out alive. Last year every single person in the supermarket looked like they wanted to brutally murder each other, it was really stressful. Everyone appeared on the verge of a nervous breakdown...people were literally gritting their teeth and swearing a lot as they tried to shop. There were so many people you couldn't breathe, let alone move about properly.
Where do you do your Christmas food shop? When do you do it? Anyone else not done theirs yet? Anyone got any horror stories of past Christmas shops to share? |

OMG - I'm sooooo glad I've got it all sorted this year!
I'm in Sudan dodging bullets and trying to do my bit... I left a credit card with my sister... she'll be doing the whole Tesco thing tomorrow.... that's if she hasn't gone and loaded my card up on Jimmy Choos lol lol I return home on Sunday & hopefully the fridge & cupboards will be full ![]() Keep a cool head - Xmas is supposed to be a fun time! 1st degree murder @ the deli counter will really ruin your day! Enjoy..................... FB |

Tesco's will kindly bring it all to my door - and hopefully right through to my kitchen - on Sunday afternoon. I am happy to pay them the eight quid they are charging me to do so. It would have taken at least three hours of my time not to mention my sanity so it's good value in my book and I won't be tempted to buy an extra kilo of sprouts 'just in case'.

Same here, although it's Sainsburys in this case. The thought of even attempting to wrestle my way into the carpark towards the end of this week is enough to put me off.

Haven't got any big shop to do as OH and I aren't really interested in "Christmas food" but am off food shopping today as I always do mine on Tuesdays! Wonder how busy it will be in Asda?

Havent got any choice but to go off to the nearest decent sized supermarket, 50 miles away on Friday - for obvious reasons they dont deliver
. Cant go early because Ive got to drop the kids off at school first - its going to be a nightmare but at least not as bad as last year when I got there at half 5 in the morning to find the car park already jam packed. At least this way I still have to queue but I do get a decent night's sleep.

I'm off on Thursday and Friday, so I'll do mine then.
Pain in the butt that it is. Sadly I missed all the slots for an on line delivery. They were all taken on December 9th, when I looked. |

I had a look at a few things yesterday, a lot of items still have use by dates of before christmas. Luckily I have a Tesco delivery booked for Friday evening, I will try and get as much as possible then.

Pain in the butt that it is. Sadly I missed all the slots for an on line delivery. They were all taken on December 9th, when I looked. Tesco sent out an email saying you could book from December 4th for Christmas Eve, three weeks in advance. I logged on at twenty to nine in the morning, to find all the slots gone. Apparently, people sit up all night to make sure they get a slot. Christmas shopping isn't that bad!

Tried to be clever and did my food shop online with Asda. But boy has it backfired:
The van turned up last night with four bloody turkeys which I'd ordered accidentally. ![]() I had to rush three of them down to my local Asda for a refund pretty sharpish. Oh well, a lesson learned.

I love everything Christmas generally, but the Christmas shop is what I dread. I'm going to get to Tescos at the crack of dawn on Friday to do the bulk of it, and then again on Christmas Eve, but I'll go to Marks and Spencers / Waitrose to get all my fresh food and treats. I'm really looking forward to it!

We weren't going to bother with traditional Christmas food, then changed our minds.........so it's off to Asda on Thursday evening to get the lot. I'm not bothered really if things get sold out, I'm easily pleased with tons of other stuff. I'd be quite happy with some crisps, dips and Turkish Delight!
Got to lug it all home by bus though although I'll take the granny wheelie bag and the bus stops right outside my door .

We're going Friday night - but it won't be a big shop.
I've never understood this. Why a big shop. Fair enough if you've extra people visiting who need feeding. It's the over indulgence of the individual I don't get. I cannot and do not want to eat more on Christmas day than I do on any average day of the week. I don't want to be throwing untouched food away. I don't want to be eating turkey for the next ten days. No egg and chips for us two. And jolly nice it'll be too !

I am going to restrain myself this year.
Every other year I can remember, there has been ridiculous amounts of food left over. For example why do we buy bucketloads of tangerines and nuts (that won't open), jar upon jar of pickled cabbage, peaches in brandy, mincemeat and things we wouldn't normally buy a lot of? |

Yes. M&S last week, everything's in the freezer. I'm going lazy style, even bought the gravy and custard ready made from there.
I'll just grab some fresh veg over the weekend or Monday. |
