For everyone who owns a Marantz SR5300

Hi,

If you own a Marantz SR5300 how loud is it? How much can you crank it up before it gets to loud?

I've had my Marantz SR5300 for about 2 months and so far have been very unimpressed with the loudness. I'm able to near enough turn it up all the way without it being too loud. I know there's more to amp than loudness eg sound quality but once in a while I'd like to be able to turn it up and not hear myself think ! ! !

A guy I know bought this Yamaha AV amp a few weeks before me, similar spec and rating and has only got it to -25db before it was to loud. Mine gets to the max 15db and although its loud, its not extremely loud. I hate to say this but my old Awia Mini System was louder than this Marantz amp.

I'm running a pair of Mordaunt Short 906's which I've had for about a month.

Is this just the way it is or is it a problem with the amp???

Thanks for your help

Stuart

Has your mate got a more powerful amp and/or more sensitive speakers and/or smaller room with different acoustics. There are quite a few reasons for differences in sound levels.

Try your speakers on his amp and visa versa and see what things sound like. This should help you identify where the differneces in percieved levels occur.

yeah, i have a 5200 which has 10 watts less if memory serves me correctly. I also felt its wasnt overly loud, so i bumped all the levels up +15 and then it was okay. I have a pair of mission m74's, i must say i got used to it after a while and I dont actually think I want it to get much louder as the bass on DTS audio is already shaking the house
