Working for BBC? (Not a Rant)
SCD-Observer
18-12-2007
It really puzzled me to no end how some FMs here keep writing posts after posts of why they think were the reasons Matt Di Angelo is in the final, that:

1) He works for BBC, and/or

2) He's in the tour.

Apparently, these are also the reasons why BBC would ultimately not want Alesha to win.

If this is so, Letitia also fulfils the above two 'criteria'. Going by that line of argument, she should be chosen by the judges over Alesha in the quarter final when they were both in the bottom two.

Further more, if this is so, then Gethin (who also works for BBC and is apparently the most popular of the three semi-finalists) should be put through simply because:

a) That will pull in more viewership (since Gethin has the highest public votes and in BBC's interest, he should stay to boost the ratings of the final).

b) there will be more votes from Gethin's supporters in the final, ensuring that Alesha won't win.

Can't people see that there is no BBC conspiracy going on and the judges' decisions, however controversial they might be, are simply that: their decisions?

Comments?

I dont think it matters to the bbc who wins.
I can see benefits for them in Gethin, Alesha or Matt winning.
I think whoever dances best on the night will win on Saturday, when it comes to the final that has always been the case so far....

Fully agree.

There are a lot of knee-jerk juvenile opinions flying round this forum at the moment which clearly have no basis in fact.

You could fill pages shooting them down using the same kind of argument...

Crazy isn't it?

Almost as crazy as those nuttaz who believe without question that the BBC is completely honest, trustworthy and scrupulously fair in all its activities despite all the phone-in scandals and other evidence to the contrary.

Some people eh?

Letita doesn't work for the BBC anymore and since Matt has finished filming on Eastenders he would have fulfilled his contract

Would look great for them to have a winner on tour.

I don't see it as a conspiracy. I just don't think it's acceptable that any votes made for Gethin over the last week were entirely redundant because of the voting system. The BBC should refund the cost of all these votes as they could not have influenced the overall result.

Refunding the money will never happen as it is for CiN (and for the telecoms... something or other. Costs of running the telephone lines or something.). Also, they were not entirely redundant - Gethin fans played their part in keeping him out of the dance-off. It was the fact that Alesha came first or second that put him into it.

Now, that said, I don't think there should have been a dance-off at this stage, if only for the fact that it would surely suit to have the two people bringing in the most votes in the semi through to the final - it would follow that if they voted once in the semi, they could vote 3 or 4 times in the final.

That I agree with the judges decided the total thing not the public. No amount of pontificating about CIN changes that fact. It isn't about whose favourite got to the final but corruption.

But she (1) would not make a credible winner, (2) was going to have to devote a lot of time to panto, and (3) ... does she even work for the BBC any more?

That one's better, but your point about his popularity suggests another possibility: that they want Alesha to win and think she'd stand a better chance against Matt.

How are we supposed to see that there's no conspiracy? We don't know everything the judges have said to each other. We don't know what's said in production meetings -- or by producers to each other, or to judges, outside of meetings.

Suspicions are created by marking that looks questionable, by what seems to be inconsistency in how the dance-offs are decided (only by the dances in the dance-off, or can other things be taken into account?), ...

Also, people are a lot more cynical and suspicious about reality and similar shows than they used to be.

All I need to say is: Emma Bunton. Last year, people were DEAD SURE BBC was promoting her (letting her sing the CiN theme song didn't help). They were all up in arms saying she was favoured by the judges because the judges (esp. Craig) had a stake at her winning the SCD yadda, yadda, yadda. Then what happened? She was at the bottom of two for several weeks and finally booted out of the competition. If there is conspiracy somewhere, BBC would have rigged the votes to keep Emma OUT of the bottom two, surely?

Thirdly, Matt is also technically NOT working for BBC any more (since he filmed his last scene last week).

And I don't understand the thing about the panto. After all, she's in the tour, what has panto got to do with it?

I just think it's the judges making too many arbitrary criteria along the way (after all the dance off concept is only in this year's SCD) and admittedly lost their plot along the way. That's all. Or is that too simple for you to accept as a plausible fact?

Just because they are cynical does not mean they are more astute or wise...

So the only person who actually works for the BBC now is Gethin - so that theory is knocked on the head.

what fuels thoughts of a conspiracy is the judges inconsistency. Not just subjective inconsistency which is difficult to take if a fan of that celebrity but ,even worse, objective inconsistency - first one man standing ovation which wasn't and a decision in the dance off based on BBC rules which also - going on earlier savings - clearly weren't - all of these thrown at a celebrity who had fallen the week before big time, like no other celebrity before in five series.

I cannot say the choices this year have bothered me but know how I would feel if it was one of my chosen celebrities. Gutted.

I was gutted that I couldn't get a vote for Gethin last Saturday. I tried for three hours without success. So did a friend of mine in another area. How many others over the country were in this position? It has been said that the same thing happened with people voting for Matt and Alesha. But on another thread someone said she kept her finger on the redial button all day for Alesha. Lucky you, I thought. I am not saying this is a conspiracy or anything. But we would never know, would we.
