Where do you all buy your Panasonic RAM discs from?

In the past I have got mine from Amazon - they used to sell them directly (ie hold the stock themselves).
Now they no longer sell them directly but offer them through KKelectronics and the 10 pack is showing as in stock.
However - I'm not sure Amazon has the correct up to date info on stock because when I went to kkelectronics own website they did not seem to sell the 10 pack.
Amazon also offer them via another seller - 247electronics - but their own website doesn't have any RAM discs at all.
Surely if they really had them they would sell them on their own websites?


Panasonic RAM discs don't seem to be sold on the high street anymore - Currys and Argos used to sell them but no longer do so.

I am actually worried they are slowly disappearing from sale.

Can anyone recommend anywhere to purchase them please?

RAM discs of any make are relatively scarce, I haven't seen any Panasonic ones for ages. My advice is to find a decent reliable brand and use those instead. I get mine from Eclipse Computers in Coventry.

I bought my last batch from Argos, but as you say they're not stocking them any more, but a quick Google for dvdram brought up loads of suppliers.

Have you considered buying them from Panasonic directly? It may not be the cheapest option, but I know that they sell them. You access the shop via the Panasonic.co.uk website.

Panasonic themselves are expecting them back in stock on the 3rd January 08.

So they will still be selling them via their online shop.

Comet usually stock them - 10 pack for £17.99 last time I looked

I can recommend APR Media, very good suplier, quick and efficient service.

I have looked on Amazon for them and prices were the cheapest I have seen,(£3.49 for 5 pack / £8.49 for10 pack) but as they are outside suppliers I don't know what their service is like but I am tempted by the price.

Also check on the postage, some of the outside suppliers really put the charges up.

Wouldn't use those people again if they were giving stock away. They kept me waiting on a premium rate number, still keep sending me their junk email despite unsubscribing numerous times and refuse to refund postage, citing some odd legalese on their website, even when it's totally their cock-up.

I'm trying to get some now - for the first time - and was surprised at how rare they seem to be on the High St.

Almost bought some off Amazon @£3.49 but postage is £4.50

Whilst shopping in Wolverhampton yesterday, my Partner announced she wanted to go and look at Freezers in a local Independent retailer (Tylers)so off we went, to my surprise they had Panasonic RAM discs on sale.
Now I know where to go when I need any more!

If its any help Amazon seem to have the 5 disc packs (showing as sold by Amazon.co.uk) at £7.47.

You could buy 2, but that would still leave you 6p short of free delivery.

I use APR Media, though there have been occasions when they were out of stock and I had to use a more expensive Amazon Marketplace supplier.

Could anyone explain why they pay the premium to use RAM discs?

Whether in PC drives or DVD recorders, I'd like to know what their good features are.

I have a Panasonic DVD recorder, but since it has a hard drive, the only discs I use are DVD+/- for archiving or sharing.

The main advantage of DVD-RAM discs is that they act more like a HDD than a DVD disc. When using on a PC you simply copy and paste files.

Also when using in the Panasonic DVD Recorder you can easily extract the video on to a PC HDD using Panasonics DVD Movie Album software.

Further to Hal_Loe's notes above, one particular feature that makes them have special uses is the ability to bounce material losslessly to and from the hard disc, which is a useful feature in general editing.

They also permit chase play on non-hard disc equipped machines.

It's always worth having some in stock , even if you do not routinely use them.

I have quite a lot because I have been copying the footage I wanted to keep onto other discs with my computer and a program I found with help from a forum member. It is called TMPGEnc DVD Author 2.0.

I know that you can re-record the RAM discs 100,000 times!

It's better to use the older version TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6. As this has no encoding engine so will not be able to re-encode the files.

Even better still to use Panasonic DVD Movie Album SE to extract the recordings from the DVD-RAM to mpg files and then you can easily master and burn a DVD-Video disc.
