HD compatible means (to me) that the TV has the resolution, but doesn't have a digital input, such as DVI-I or HDMI, and thus cannot decode programs on HD TV or DVD/HD-DVD or Blue Ray because of HDCP, which is only carried on these digital inputs.
The HD-Fury connects to the standard analogue VGA connection on my HD compatible LCD monitor. Many such were available a couple of years ago, but HD Ready has made them somewhat scarce now.
Mine is one such, it is HD, but doesn't have a digital input - only VGA, SCART, SVideo and YPbPr.
So my TV/monitor, with the HDFury becomes fully HD Ready too.
It was a short sighted/incorrect purchase, as I misunderstood HD compatible at the time I bought it. But it has been/still is a fantastic 32" monitor, with the ability for me to switch between TV and Computer viewing - or even have both with PIP. The Fury will make it complete.

“That's an odd gadget, and expensive.”
I's not nearly as expensive as another large screen LCD HD Ready TV/Monitor! It's only £73 or thereabouts.
