New theme tune? I wonder if the opening title sequence has been updated too???

I hope they havent tampered with the theme tune too much.

Crikey... That'll be the third version in three years.

Yes, I wonder if its actually a new, different version or just a remixed version of the current theme tune.

I'd personally like to see the strings reigned in a bit, making it sound more like that Eccleston version, but retaining the middle 8 that was lacking that time around.

One report said it had a more defined drumbeat described as being similar to that used in the 10 o'clock news !!?? (Maybe the drumbeat heard in the promo's is the same rhythm)

As long as we don't end up hearing Trevor Macdonald going BONG, I'll be happy

I think we should ditch the Welsh Orchestra version over the end credits, it sounds very much like the McGann TV movie version...

I would still like to see the opening credits with the original theme tune though, as they were originally going to be til old Murray Gold messed around with it...just to see how the look/sound goes together...

I'd like to hear The Flying Pickets version.

Really? I can't tell the difference between series 1, 2 and 3's themes?

Probably a remixed version and I doubt it's permanent, maybe it's just for this ep? I can't see them introducing a completely new permanent theme during a special.

Well, S1 didn't have the middle 8. S2 and 3 also had much more of an orchestra especially towards the end... way too much for my liking as it started to lose the electonic feel which is essential to the theme (IMO). The new mix/version will be the third version since the show reboot.

(a) It's the same tune, not "completely new"

(b) Why not introduce it now?

The current version was first heard on The Christmas Invasion I believe so there's no reason for this new version (with the main difference being more drums I think) not to be the permanent one.

Perhaps they could use a modified version of this lol.

Just played the 2007 theme against the 2005 theme and I can notice slight differences (the orchestra is louder, it's less electrical sounding).

Remember, the theme now has to fit in with the beeb's new guidelines for credit length so a rejig may have been necessary to create a version which could play out in 30 seconds.

Personally I'd have preferred a slowed down CGI sequence with the spinning Tardis accompanied by the Steptoe and Son tune.

a) You know what I mean, when I say completely new I mean noticeably different to both the trained and the untrained ear. I only noticed the difference between 2005 and 2007's theme by playing them at the same time and I consider myself quite a who fan
b)Because I thought it would make more sense to introduce it with series 4

Was it? Well I stand corrected. I couldn't tell the difference until now.

The current theme plays out in about 40 seconds I think, so it's not meeting the new guidelines just yet (I could be wrong).

Plus I hope your joking about the steptoe and son theme lol. It's terrible.

Can't say i'd noticed the difference either until my ahem...8year old pointed out the music was different after watching some episodes on the PC.
But i love the Confidental music-thats a cool remix.

The guidelines were only introduced between the end of last series and now (and if it was bad enough having the announcer speak over the theme, we'll now also have the screen scrunched up whilst a promo for Casualty or somesuch is shown)

Ahh yes but if we listen to Aunty Beeb as we all should, it's all for our benefit. Yes because I really want to know that on BBC4 is a documentary on the life span of the average BBC director general or that on BBC2 is yet another repeat of Heroes but this time edited for 3 year olds to watch. Grrr grumble grumble

I wonder if the actual opening title sequnece will be different too?

Surely it will need to be because in the last 3 episodes of Series 4 there needs to be enough room to show the names of DT, CT, FA, BP and JB all in the same title sequence!!
