Do you think that an X Factor winner could release ANY old song as a single, no matter how poor it is, and still get to number one in the singles' charts due to the promotion and hype of the X Factor?

If not, what do you think the quality cutoff point is?
How poor would an X Factor single need to be in order to NOT get to number one?

X-Factor now seriously need to take some tips from the less-hyped Mobile Act Unsigned on T4.

Same concept, but so much more credible!

I suppose it depends just how bad the winner and the single are. Also, they have missed before. Steve lost out to Band Aid, I think? And the Pop Idol cover of "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" only made #5.

I think next year could be interesting. Personally I think X Factor might have "jumped the shark" this year, and might die on it's arse next year if the standard isn't any better. If so, I suspect we might see our first X Factor winner only hitting the no.2 slot if the song's a bit ropey (which of course, it will be) and it's up against something decent, which I think would be classed as the begining of the end for the show, and we'll get back to traditional Xmas no.1s. Uh oh, Cliff's going to be back .

That's my prediction, anyway

I wish i could agree with you but until the country stops wanting to be famous then i'm afraid that we are a long way away from seeing the demise of these horrific attempts at entertainment.

I challenge Cowell and co. to record the winner farting on the microphone several times (accompanied by the gospel choir joining in) and put that out as a single - see if it still gets to #1 even then.

The song is sort of a souvenir for the whole series so it will sell well regardless of quality.

With Leon's sales looking a bit low, it seems that the song and singer can have an impact on sales. We'll be able to judge better once the physical sales are available.

Yes I think thats the whole point of winning the X-factor - gives the winner the ultimate prize.

If I won I would expect to get to number one. Maybe with the cats chorus mind you but hey.....people would buy it!

Yes strangely enough. They could release a record with just 4 minutes of silence and it would get to number 1.

Let's hope for their sake that John Cage's estate won't demand ridiculous royalty fees then, eh?

Yes. I made this point myself earlier - that's why the lyrics and videos of these winners songs are invariable a pile of crap ... Why bother wasting money when shedload of people will rush out like lemmings to buy it

At the moment yes but I seriously think people have got irritated by the x FACTOR this year and next year they are going to have to pull out all the stops to gaurantee and number 1. The Winner has to be someone who has talent, for example.
