Why can't the final just be about who's best on the night?

There seems to be so much bitching about who should or shouldn't be in the final, and who doesn't deserve to be in the final. I was supporting Gethin for the past four weeks and I don't like Matt D at all, but based on the semi final performances alone he deserved to go through. As for the final yes Alesha has been more consistant but Matt has certainly had his wow moments too. I hate all these "if alesha doesn't win threads its a farce blah blah blah or i'll never watch again if she doesn't win....", get a grip!!!!!
Whichever of the two wows the most people and gets them to vote for them, deserves to win, simple as! There will obviously be a lot more votes cast in the final than normal so its an open game and will come down to whoever wins over the new voters on the night ( I'm one of them- going up north to my cousins for the weekend and will be voting like crazy for the best on the night)

It can be about who's best on the night. But only if Alesha's best on the night

Alesha is my absolute favourite but if Matt outdances her on the night he deserves to win.

Every night should be about who is best on the night. The final's a bit different though - to me, should be about who is the best dancer. Now, if the best dancer were terrible on the final night, it would change things a bit, but I'm hoping both are good on the final night. In which case, the best dancer of the two over the entire series is Alesha.

Pretty much agree with you there clonion. To be honest I think I'd vote Alesha and Matthew whatever they did on Saturday- they've brought so much warmth to each of their dances and have been so consistent- they've made SCD for me this year. And if someone's made SCD for me then I want them to win...

Pretty much sums it up for me too. Alesha has consistently been the best and has had so many excellent, memorable dances, which is why she deserves to win.

So it's fairer to say the person who has made most impact on each viewer over the series is the one they should vote for, even if they have a weak dance in the final? That seems fair. And those of us whose favourite has gone are free to abstain or judge on the night.

I think so jtnorth, that's how I vote. Though people will of course set their own judging criteria!

Frankly, I'm almost expecting a weaker dance, given there are 5... it would be different if there were 3 in the final *still wishes there were*

The final is all about the performance on the night coupled with the way they got there, which is different to an ordinary showwhich should be about performane on the night.

Whilst I don't think Matt deserved to be in the SEMI final on the basis of his performance (or lack of it) the week before - his dancing last week was superb (albeit not worth the perfect 40).

I'm looking forward to seeing both Alesha and Matt D do their dances, but can't help feeling that M&A will cope with the 5 dances better than M&F

A good idea Mikee but it can never happen totally.

Yes there may be a lot of people who will vote for the best on the night but I'm never sure what proportion of votes that will account for.

HOWEVER

- As Tess Daly say "Vote for your favourite" NOT "Vote for the best dancer tonight".

- Voting starts immediately after a couple has been eliminated and continues right up to the start of the next show WITHOUT any dancing taking place

- Matt & Flavia fans will vote for Matt & Flavia regardless

- Alesha & Matthew fans will vote for Alesha & Matthew regardless

- Matt & Flavia 'haters' will vote for Alesha & Matthew regardless

- Alesha & Matthew 'haters' will vote for Matt & Flavia regardless

- Some people will vote for both because they can't decide between them!

Need I go one...........?

On the voting side it is really a popularity contest (see above) with some dancing. It has upset a lot of people this year because the judges have much more of a say in who stays and goes.

I personaly have mixed feeling about that and can see what the BBC were trying to achieve. If Kelly hadn't had to drop out and there had been (as planned by the BBC) 4 semi-finalists (and 3 Finalists - which I'm sure would have included Gethin) I think that there would have been much less of a problem.

But I, like you, will just enjoy the dancing by 2 excellent couples that have far exceeded my expectations and I can only look and wish I could dance half as well.

Enjoy the final.

Or don't vote because of the voting scandals, etc. I'm not just being flippant, I would bet that there are far less votes than usual and that the 'floating voters' are less tempted to spend their money. That might mean that the decision will be down to show obsessives, like all of us, multiple voting. Which might mean that performance over the series will win over dancing on the night or it might mean it's a competition for whose fans are the most obsessive. I have no idea. But if the voting is down by 50% (as is true apparently of X Factor) then that's presumably has a factor on the result.

This month's phone bill has just come (OUCH) but it won't stop me voting in the final.

I hope it's M&F but I'm looking forward to an enjoyable final whatever happens. They're both good (as is Gethin), it's just a shame there couldn't be 3 couples. But then Kelly was great too...

See i completely disagree with the op's opinion. Imagine next year, and we're left with a great dancer, and a terrible dancer, whos made it through on sheer luck and popularity, stamping over 12 superior dancers. Now say, that person puts in decent performances, and the wonderful dancer for 11 weeks has a realy bad night. The winner would have to be the consistant dancer who had an off night, instead of the consistantly terrible dancer, who had a decent night.

If this was the case then there would be no point of having a final (or even quarter or semi final) if the result was a foregone conclusion. THere would also be no need for eliminations.

IMO it can't be just about who's best on the night because it's a 12 week competition. I've never had a favourite in the final (up until now) so I've always voted on who I thought deserved it the most based upon the whole competition not just that night.

Shouldn't they?

Why vote for the best when you can vote for a no-hoper or a cocker-upper?

All the way through the public have been voting in droves for the weaker dancers so why break the habit now?

Alesha really needs to flat flat on her lovely bottom if she wants to win. Then she'll get loadsa votes. Much easier way to win than actually dancing!!! It works for everybody else!

Your posts are quite predictable and sometimes downright nasty. I'm not a mad Matt fan, but you are presenting him as the next Chris Parker, which he is clearly not. Have a look on youtube and listen to all the expert commentaries of his dances, and how much they were praising his talent and the difficulties of their routines. However, that would mean that you actually have to do something constructive rather than just come out with the same old line.

I personally think Alesha is a beautiful dancer and she will probably win, but at the very least we have another very good dancer in the final (Gethin would have been a good dancer too, but for different reasons than Matt).
