Just pop them in the oven for about half hour... remember to make a small cut at the top though.

I love roast chestnuts.

Yep you can wack 'em in an oven or under the grill.

Makes sure wou slit each one with a knife though!

About 20 min or so should do it but I just have a look and test one.

I just put them in a pan for about 20 minutes, giving them a shake every few minutes to stop them burning on one side.

May I suggest after roasting the chestnuts to dip them in some butter or perhaps some apple sauce to maximise the flavor?

Like toast and crumpets, they are best on an open fire. But sadly few of us have such things these days.

My sister is mad for them raw - I quite like them like that, but its a real faff getting the bitter pith off a raw chestnut.

At home in Italy we used to have an iron pan with holes in it and it was used to cook chestnuts. My mum would cut a slit on them, then cook them on the hob in the pan. You can easily see when they are done.

If you soak them overnight, in water - prior to oven roasting they plump up too.
