Samsung LE40M886BDX

Switched the TV on and there were purple vertical lines running down the display via HDMI on my sky HD box. Via scart on my DVD recorder the lines were horizontal. Put my xbox 360 on and the picture was fine. Thus leading me to think my sky box was on the blink.

Messed around with the sky box and no joy so somebody coming out Friday to fix it.

Decided to play a DVd and alas the lines were still there. This prompted me to being a LCD from upstairs down. Alas the DVD played fine and the sky picture via scart and dvd recorder were fine.

This prompted me to think its the TV. When we first got it after a few weeks there was picture distortion with reds and purples on screen. As it was only about 6 weeks old I went on the bounce to Currys and demanded a new replacement which after some haggling and showing pictures from my mobile phone I walked out with a brand new replacement.

Switched the TV off for 20 mins and back on and alas the problem has gone !!!

Should I cancel the sky hd call ?

Also should I get onto Samsung re the problem or try currys again ? I managed to get a photo on my phone again and the set was replaced in July so thats 5 months. Dont expect to spend a grand plus on a TV and its dodgy.

Trial and error, take out leads and see how things look, use different sockets.

Do you have any scarts connected, mine had vertical banding and as you do, you throw a fit and blame the TV - connected via a HDMI and now a perfect picture.

You could try resetting the TV to the default settings, there are so many menus on these sets it would be easy to mess up the picture.

Problem hasnt happened again. I reckon it was when the TV switched on something went wrong then.

Have to keep an eye on it. If it happens again might as well get it sorted before my year warranty runs our.

The interlacing on your video board is F*CKED, Seen this on a Hitachi (Along with every other thing that can go wrong on an LCD!!) I bet you when you switch to an input, say from DTV to component for the xbox this happens? Over time the full screen will have these lines, or it will go black and switch itself off, or a nice mix of both, get it sorted NOW!

Your first port of call should be the retailer where you bought it (If it was Curry's, oh No!), but you can phone them aswell, but they don't have alot of offical service agents in the U.K. nuts as that may be.

Like all LCD and Plasma service agents, there are only a fairly small number of approved agents throughout the UK - they are treated differently to other products, with only a specifically trained minority of their normal service agents allowed to touch them.

In that respect it's probably no different to any other LCD/Plasma manufacturer?.

I had a dingy Sagem t.v., phoned Sagem who told me that because I lived in Scotland it most difficult to get a service agent to have a look at it in the house as they didn't have anybody based in Scotland, & sombody would need to be sent up from down south, I doubt Sagem believe in the stereotype that Scot's are all tight, thus wouldn't be buying their over priced & under performing cr*p! P.S. To anybody who actually works for Sagem (All 2 of you's apparently!.) "Get it up yeh!!"

So you buy a cheap TV from a very minor player in the market, then complain they don't have a national service network?.

As with anything sold in the UK, it's the RETAILER who is responsible, not the manufacturer - any problems contact your retailer, whom all your legal rights are against.
