Just how many dances have been performed to authentic music? For that matter, how many of the dances would be recognisable to those who danced them when the dances evolved?

See this is why people voted for it - because it is like Beyonce, not because it is a good Cha-Cha. The reason I hated it is that everyone was so obsessed with the "Diva-ness" and the performance, they didn't judge it as a Cha-Cha.

The second half of the dance is probably worse; an obvious mistake and sloppy leg work.

Dancesport music does evolve over time (anyone want Tea For Two on SCD? Didn't think so.), but the rhythm and beat are pretty standardised in order to still be able to call it a Cha-Cha (rather than Street Dance) and to have the correct emphases.

Not a whole lot of music on SCD has been authentic - some new choices have worked, some haven't, but this stands out as being completely the wrong choice but still getting nothing but praise.

And there has not been a whole lot of competition for best Cha-Cha this series; everyone else did it in the first week, except Kenny, who has problems hearing the beat for the most rhythmical of dances, and Letitia, who wasn't very good at the 'hip-swinging' dances and was ill anyway.

Actually I for one didn't vote "cos it's like Beyonce" - I only vaguely knew the song and don't think I have ever seen Beyonce dancing.

Dance teachers have said that, even with a non standard song (and as has also been said, how many of those to we get on SCD *wry grin* the actual dance was a good cha cha. I guess all dance is going to be partly subjective, and if you didn't like it, you didn't like it.

.”

does it really matter why people like it?
Wether you like it or not this isnt a championship dance competition its a Saturday night entertainment show.
I dont give two hoots who is technically the best dancer i vote on what i like watching on the night.
I liked Alesha's cha cha, i thought it was a great , i loved her spins and i enjoyed watching it. Simple as that.
I am no dance expert so i vote on who i like watching dance the most. And for me Alesha's cha cha was one of my favourite dances this year.
I also loved Gethins salsa which apparently wasnt that technical either. I prefer someone to go out there have fun and do a great performance then someone who is technically perfect but has no stage presence.

And I am explaining why I don't like it.
But every time I do, there are a barrage of people coming up with comments like yours, so I have to re-explain myself.

You can like it for the spins, and I can hate it for the lock steps and back steps, it's as simple as that.

I would rather watch someone do nice basics to great music than someone just do a 'performance' without the foundations.
