My ancient 28" hitachi CRT tv keeps turning itself off for no reason at all, and then turns itself back on, technically it goes into standby. It is about 6 years old. Is this is sign that it is on the way out ?

Most probably just dry joints, a common Hitachi problem.

LOL sounds like me !!! Is it something that can be fixed then ?

Yes, probably just requires resoldering, just a question of finding the faulty joints - but any Hitachi agent should know where they are, as it's a VERY common fault.

Yeah, a dry joint is just a crack in the solder between the circuit board and a component. It stops the electrical signal.

If the crack is obvious then it can be a quick fix. If not then it may take some time to track down, and that usually means a bigger repair bill.
