I think Mr Fantastic should be lined up to play the 11th Doctor. Ioan was terrific in The Forsyte Saga. And he's pretty hot too. I don't think you always pick up how handsome he is from the Fantastic Four films because Chris Evans is there.

I think this is my favourite 11th Doctor rumour so far! Even if I did start it myself.

Anyone else got an actor on their Doctor Who wish list?

I'm starting to find it odd that "hotness" is now a factor in casting The Doctor.

It gets the mums!

Actually that sounds like a pretty damn fine idea!
I doubt that he would take it as he's got a Hollywood career going now, but I think he would be a good choice.

If memory serves it's not the first time that Ioans name has been bandied about for the role of the Doctor. As for Sexiness being a part of the casting requirements as has been mentioned earlier it helps to get the mums in, plus a large portion of Who's viewing audience have an eye for the men to and no I'm not talking about single women.

I do think that "large portion" is massively overstating it. Much as we all like to thing our owndemographic is the key aim of the audience, or makes up a significant proportion of the audience, but at the end of the day it's basically:

1) Children
2) Families of children
3) Sci-fi nerds
4) A handful of others.

You really don't get 7m-10m viewers based on those demographics. I have a broad circle of friends and work colleagues - I think you'd be really surprised how many woman who don't have kids (for instance) watch Doctor Who these days. It really is a very varied audience.

Who says I wasn't talking about sci-fi nerds in the first place? lol

I will concede that I maybe slightly overstating the case but I can promise you this years christmas special will pull in extra viewers due to the presence of a certain Miss Minogue alone and would happily put cash on it being the highest rated show of the Christmas schedule based in no small part to not just Kylie but also the ever yummy DT.

I've always wondered-and please excuse my ignorance, its not intended-but i've never understood why Kylie is such a huge gay icon for men-without being blunt-shes a woman

I've got to admit I personally have never been one to understand why so many Gay Icons are women, the other halfs feeling is that for Kylie at least she has always marketed herself towards the gay sector always doing high profile gigs in Gay venues and at one stage even giving the international preview of one of her singles to a very small independent gay radio station. In turn the boys and girls of the pink pound reward her loyalty with unwavering loyalty of there own. Plus she wears all those sparkly outfits and bright shiney things easily confuse a lot of us gays it's almost hypnotic

Mell, my partner does, but she falls firmly into category 3. Although I' not sure where gender comes into this?

I'm female with kids and i love DW-not because my kids do-infact i was watching it long before they came along.
And it was me who got them into it, they didn't really have much choice.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting that women without children watch Doctor Who and mums don't.

I was just suggesting that the kids aren't necessarily the deciding factor.

A lot of woman watch Doctor Who because they actually enjoy the show - and not just to keep the kids quiet.

I don't doubt that - although I'm not sure anyone had suggested otherwise, had they?

well i've seen Ioan Gruffudd. in a few things and he has always been pretty good and seeing as Doctor Who is filmed in Wales why not have a Welshman in the lead part.

I think we need another hot female companion like Freema to pull in more of us ... errr ... lesbians.

And those people who think a large chest is enough, well I'm sorry but you're just being shallow.

Apologies to Ioan Gruffudd fans, but he is the blandest thing on two legs- I could see him as an officer type in UNIT say, but not the Doctor. The Doctor is supposed to be exciting, enigmatic and strange (he is an alien after all), Ioan Gruffudd is about as exciting as a Blue Peter presenter on mogadon.

If we're going the young, good-looking route then I'd propose Tom Hardy (especially as he has been in two BBC productions recently: Oliver Twist and Stuart: A Life Backwards). Talented and interesting.

I suggested Tom Hardy a while ago - I have liked him ever since he was in Colditz. Him and Damien Lewis would do a great job.

So who has apparently put him in the frame then? Or he's in the frame only in the OP's own mind (I wish posters would not use misleading titles )

Well he's good looking anyway.
