Alesha herself was dead worried last Saturday because of the crazy voting the previous week. She greeted her promotion with unmistakeable relief. Had Alesha gone into the dance-off to face the four 10's waltzer God only knows what would have happened.

I admittedly find Camilla to be a little too much on the slender side. But that's just her natural build. She can't help it in the slightest, and she seems perfectly healthy. I think it can give her a slightly frenetic impression in the latin, but very graceful in ballroom. It all balances out, and as I said earlier, it's her build, so why hold it against her?
As for her teeth - eh? What's that got to do with how she dances? And why is it I get the impression that if she were male, these things wouldn't be said?

Couldn't agree more, Madam President. Matt may well be the innocent target of complaints which are really intended for the panto dames and their abuse of the voting procedure. On the other hand he may not.

Even the divine Flavia's body language suggested that he was getting on her nerves too.

I will happily put my hand up about the 'smug' comment - but I didn't say he was smug - I said he LOOKED smug (subtle difference) and, in context, it was when the dance-off was announced. Frankly, if I'd just been handed out four tens and faced a dance-off, I'd look smug - so that isn't the personal attack it's just been interpreted as. OK?!
And, for the record, there has been a lot of thinly veiled attacks on Gethin - some of it, I suspect, fuelled by Matt's own immature taunts ("Well, if Gethin wants a fight, he's got one"). Those comments were broadcast the week Matt came unstuck - a case of karma, perhaps? Thankfully, he seems to have abandoned that.
If there's vitriol required, can we please direct it appropriately, i.e. at the producers and the judges? Like most other posters here, I don't want to see intelligent debate reduced to playground name-calling ...

I cannot agree with your implication here. Matt may be a bit mouthy but he has never actually struck me as particularly confident. It's been mentioned since the beginning that Matt always has a problem with nerves backstage. I think with going back to EE, the change to two dances a week and everybody raising their game the pressure got too much for him.
I refuse to believe that any of the contestants are sitting there calculating the best way to garner votes. Especially when they're hella busy. I doubt any of them even have time to think.

Just for balance, I will say that last week alone (ie before he'd gone) I read lots about Gethin, including that he was a 'pompous b@satard', 'fake', 'I hate Gethin', 'smug', 'full of himself', not training because he was too confident and the threads on people only voting for his looks/shirt, that he'd only done one good dance and that his relationship with K Jenkins was just for publicity. There were threads I stopped reading altogether because of the number of spiteful things said about him. I'm not defending the attacks on Matt at all, but we all feel and remember the attacks on our favourites more than those on anyone else. I do think that if the vote had gone the other way, the things being said about Gethin on here would match what is now being said about Matt, none of which I agree with.
That's different from objecting to the voting system and wanting to see it work differently next year. It is also different to disagreeing with the scores. We are all on here to discuss the show, with different levels of seriousness. Ironically the tantrum thread is one of the calmest on the board.

I am sure that Matt would be by no means the first celebrity to read the forums (or have his supporters do it for him) and adjust his/her demeanour accordingly. No I'm very aware of all that and would believe that they all partake in something similar but to mess up and humiliate yourself and your dance partner publicly on purpose?!! No.... Matthew 'listens', really 'listens to the music, and everything is choreographed around the music phrasing, and the abilities of his partner.
I believe he knows what Alesha is capable of,and pushes her just enough to perform really well, but not enough to make her struggle.
I think that is why Alesha enjoys it so much, and it shows

I'm not suggesting that Matt deliberately "threw" the dances in the quarter finals (although others believe he did), just that he is playing to a different audience now.

What Phillip Jackson said echoed what I thought after watching the dance off - that Gethin improved after hearing the judge's comments to a point where, at least to my (admittedly un-dance-educated) eyes, his dance surpassed Matt's waltz. The previous night on ITT two of the judges had given explanations as to their decisions - Arlene backing up Phillip's opinion that Gethin's dance had improved to the point where he deserved to go through, and Craig suggesting that if he'd been making the decision on factors other than just the dance off, he may well have put Gethin through.
Why shouldn't the judges' decisions be questioned? They are after all only opinions, and opinions that a large percentage of the viewing public seem to have disagreed with last week. I don't think the credibility of the program would've been helped if they'd ignored that, and I'm glad they saw fit to allow those viewers who were unhappy with the result to have their opinions expressed through an expert who agreed with them.”

Nothing wrong with the decisions of the judges being questioned. But, the way it was asked of Phillip?No, it should not have been asked in that way, or replied to in that way, right before a final. It was not tactful, or necessary

I think the detractors (of any celebrity) are less into the actual dancing and more into their partisan views being right. The pleasure, for me, about Strictly Come Dancing is that it's actually made me want to get up off the sofa and watch dance (actively seeking out events and buying tickets) and even learn to dance. A miracle!”
