Next year I think they should aim for a 5 person semi with 2 going out so that if they lose someone over the series the semi can be adapted to 1 going out leaving the preferable 3 person final.

i will sign the petition for that but they never start with an odd number as there has to be the same number of males as females in the competition

Well they could invite Kelly Brook to return to next years show on the week she went out - thus ensuring a 5 person semi final

OK adjust the number of weeks it's on for? Does it matter though? Is it an equity requirement? Of course the forums would get worked up by any inequality...

I think this is a good idea. Now that they've lost a competitor early two years in a row, the Beeb really need to come up with some contingency plans. A two-person final is nowhere near as exciting or interesting as a three-person one, and I'll be very disappointed if that happens again. I think aiming for more people in the semi is a very sensible idea.

Re message 2, I'm not sure why it's necessary to have an even number of men and women competitors, unless it's to do with the first two weeks of the series (where first only the men compete, and the next week it's the women)? I don't like it when they do that anyway, so I'd be quite happy for them to go back to the old format (with fewer couples, if needs be).

I think that's a very sensible idea - but when has the BBC taken on board viewers' sensible suggestions?

If someone leaves unexpectedly, I would rather that they simply didn't eliminate a couple that week.

But then that will make the results show a waste, and I'm inclined to think the performances may be a bit lucklustre that week as the contestants won't have the same sense of competition or anticipation.

I made this suggestion myself a while ago.

I don't really see why there has to be precisely equal numbers of male and female celebs.

Much better than a short-handed final or skipping an elimination or bringing someone back IMO.

As long as the judges don't choose both of the eliminated semi-finalists.

I know what you mean, but these things tend to happen at short notice (i.e. less than week) I'd still go through the same process as normal. Given how much everyone seems to want to stay, I think the couple who would have gone home will be relieved to be thrown a lifeline - I don't think any one would try and coast.

It would make the results show a bit flat, I agree. But would it make the dancing better? Remember the Fonz saying that most of the celebs danced better in the group dance when the pressure was off. You could introduce some sort of wild card rule - each celeb has to dance part of the dance on their own, or even person with the highest number of votes is safe next week - to add to the tension. I'm sure it could be made to work.

I think it's a great idea, and would vote for the series to be a week shorter to accommodate it. They could even have the semi in two stages, as was the three person final, with one couple going after the first dance leaving two to fight it out.

Failing that, a lot of people would opt for a week with no elimination, but I've never been sure how the format could work as there'd be no point in the results show. How about a spoof elimination? That is, the show is exactly as normal, they even do the dance off, but then as the judges are deciding they hit them with the news that no-one's going home that week. I'd love to see their reactions! You could only do it once though.
