Rose VS Martha VS Donna

Who's your favourite new series companion?

For me it's Martha. Donna annoyed me and I found series 1 and 2 were more focused on the doctor's relationship with her than the actual adventures. Martha's more intelligent than Rose and Donna, she genuinely loves the Doctor and she's better looking .

Also Martha kind of adapted to the ways of the who quicker than Rose.

Got to admit and this will probably get us stoned to death but I agree with you to a point. Martha is for me undoubtedly the best of the new companions but she only just beats Rose for me pretty much due to the fact that she was a little bit older and didn't have quite as much of the wide eyed wonderment factor which although an appeal with Rose I think would have ruined Martha. Plus I was very happy that they didn't attempt to make Martha a carbon copy of rose.

I don't think we will get stoned to death lol, I saw this as a poll on another doctor who forum, and it seemed they agreed with us.

Martha could have been better! But she was Great.

I look at it this way out of Martha and Rose who would I rather spend time with and Martha Wins hands down. Same with Freema and Billie , I think Freema is a nicer person. (But how would i know.)

I liked donna Dont shoot! But i liked the catherine Tate show so i Dont mind her.

Rose was good with CE, not so great with DT

Martha most definitely, in that she is the only one that is actually likeable! Especially now she's no longer going to be pining after the doctor and working for UNIT. However she could have been a lot better if it weren't for the shadow of Rose, and the fact the writers were purposfully making her second best to 'the speshal one' (that baffles me tbh, why deliberatly make a companion 2nd best? )

Rose... meh, she annoyed me with her smugness in series 2, but it's not so much the character I dislike (although she had her moments in series 2... many in fact) but the fact that RTD keeps putting her on a pedestal and telling me she is the greatest companion ever, when she just isn't.

I can't judge Donna yet, but she was incredibly annoying in TRB, on the other hand apparently she won't be falling in love with the doctor so she is already getting plus points for me.

For me it is Rose, i haven't seen enough of Donna for her to be my favourite. Martha could have been fantastic but the love sick puppy angle was not good and when i watch them back just have to cringe.

Martha times Infinity.

I can't wait for her to come back but I'm indifferent about Rose returning.

Same here, whilst it'll be interesting to see Rose back, I'm not really 'excited' about it or anything.

Martha I grew fond of, I never had that with Rose.

Rose in series 1, Billie Piper more than helped carry the show along with CE.

Really liking Freema as Martha as well.

I think even though Martha's character narrative, (i.e she was the 'rebound' companion, who was 2nd best to a 19 year old girl who wears to much mascara and has daddy problems) was incredibly rubbish, I was always going to like her more than Rose, even series 1 Rose who was likeable most of the time and generally got good character development.

I've just always liked the intelligent companions more, find them easier to relate too and find their more 'equal' relationship with the Doctor more interesting; so that despite my love of Jamie I'll always take the Zoe/Liz Shaw/Romana type over the Polly/Jo/Tegan types.

Really liked Donna so I'd put her top (don't murder me lol). Thought Martha's crush on the Doctor annoyed me but as a character she was really good, so she'd probably be my fav companion. Rose was good but a number of episodes she was in (especially in Tennant's era) annoyed me as she hi-jacked them all. I still state my favourite Season 28 (series 2 new) was The Idiots Lantern because for a large proportion she wasn't in it. She was best in the first three episodes of Season 27 (series 1 new). She just looked more natural then.
1. Martha
2. Donna
3. Rose (S1)
4. Rose (S2)

I agree with most people here, Martha wins for me hands down.

What can I say? She's the most likeable of the 3 and she's the one Character I could honestly relate to the most.

She's intelligent, mature and the most strongest (mentally) of the 3 and just knows how to be witty without having to look smug (I'm looking at you Series 2 Rose).

I liked Martha from her first Episode "Smith & Jones" and as Series 3 progressed I started to like her more and more and by the time the Series finshed Martha has now become my joint favorite Character with the Tenth Doctor & Jack. She really did shine for me that Series, espcially from the "Lazarus Experiment" onwards when we really started to see her strength of Character (she was abit naive in the earlier Episodes).

Also like most people here I for one am looking the most forward to her return and although I do like Rose, I was more like "meh" when I heard she was returning. Don't get me wrong I am looking forward to her return, just not as much as I am with Martha's return.

Speaking of Rose I did really like her in Series 1 but in Series 2 the writers completly ruined her (she just became cocky, arrogant and smug) which REALLY annoyed me because it just made me HATE her. I also hated RTD's attitude that she's "O sho ashweme" and everyone must "LURVE" her and think she's "De Besht" and I'm like "NO!!!!!!!!!!". I only started liking Rose again because I rewatched Series 1 and forgot how much I liked her before she got ruined which is really a shame. I just hope when Rose comes back it'll be her likeable Series 1 selfand NOT her annoying Series 2 self.

As for Donna I thought she was alright actually, nowhere near as bad as everyone makes her out to be (and believe it or not I'm not even a Catherine Tate fan). I admit she was annoying to begin with (but then she was supposed to be annoying anyway and also given to situation she was in, it was understandable) but from the middle and towards the end you begin to see her softer and likeable side and by the end of the Episode I liked her.

One more thing to add (which is abit Off Topic), I actually think David Tennant & Freema Agyeman had a (in the words of CE) FANTASTIC chemistry together while Billie Piper had better chemistry with Christopher Eccelston. Because of this Series 3 has become my favorite Series so far withe Series 1 coming in very close second. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy Series 2 but the chemistry between David & Billie were, well rubbish IMO which ruined Series 2 for me alittle.

BLIMEY! This Post has become WAY too long. Better stop now.

P.S. Before the spelling police notice some of the spelling mistakes in my Post, let me just make it clear that some of them I mispelt delibrately.

This Post is all IMVOO. Hope I made sense.

I much prefer Martha to either Donna or Rose (although as others have said, we really need to reserve full judgement until season four begins).

Essentially, I’ve always found Martha more likable. She’s more grounded, more grown up and a lot more accommodating around the guest casts than I think Billie was. As someone else has said, Rose did come across more than a little arrogant and cocky in season two and whilst I understand this was, in some way, setting them up for a fall (Doomsday), it really did bring the series down for me.

My only concern regarding Martha (for next season anyway) is that even though she’s not returning full time just yet, they do seem to be making a great deal of effort to build up the character (crossover to Torchwood, not to mention supposed involvements with other Whoniverse institutions…). This needn’t be a bad thing, in fact I think its terrific they’re investing so much in a character, without going in the direction I would have suspected RTD of and coming up with yet another spin off (which I seriously think has a great deal to do with him just wanting to slap “created by Russell T. Davis” on as many shows as possible).

However, I just worry that the writers will have her too ballsy and forward upon her return, wheras the Martha from series three seems as though she wouldn’t have had too much of a problem with extra additions to the TARDIS.

I didn’t mind Donna too much in the Xmas special, although she did get on my nerves a little bit. To be fair though, at the time she was intended as a one off, so I didn’t mind it to much (and genuinely can’t understand why there was such a backlash toward her). I think it’ll be nice to see a bit of a loutish, embarrassing companion tagging along, who won’t be going all gooey eyed over the

i dont post on here half enough...
but my thoughts on this topic are.......
Donna....
dont really know enough about her yet but.........
found the missed the two erth invasions joke because she was on holiday and scuba diving joke in her appewrance really annoying....
a funny(ish) joke, but it was totally at the expense of her caracter....

really liked Rose, the first episode of this "revamp"(haha kill me) was named after her...
can agree that the caracter became too smug over her 2 years...but she was the orignal everyman(i mean everywoman)..... the new viewers way in....
the caracter was let down in"fear her"....
the i had a son once line by the doctor...
i got the feeling that rose was too self obsessed to ask more questions....
which brings me to martha
perhaps not the best actress (dont shoot me)
but probably the best compaion....
intelligent...strength of caracter...
and willing to live 2 months (and a year) of lies to protect the doctor.... i found her leaving scence (walking away from a man that doesnt love her) very real....
cant help thinking that if freema was a "big star" like catherine or billie it would never have happened....
(why employ catherine if she would only commit to 13 episodes???)

So if DT is in for the 2009 specials
logiaclly(???) one of these 3 compiaons will be on board
who do you think??

(my moneys on billie)
Marthas my fave
x

Martha.

I have issues with all of them, to be honest, but Martha's way out in front. Pretty much everything's been said already - Rose just became too smug. The shame of it is that you can see it going back to series 1, now that we've seen it in series 2. Look at her deciding to go with the Doctor she kisses Mickey, then:

Quote:
Rose: Thanks
Mickey: For what?
Rose: Exactly!
...and she runs off to a new man. And this is the girl we're supposed to like? She's horrible to Mickey throughout the first series. And the second one, come to that. And the thing is that Mickey genuinely did become someone that I was fond of, despite despising him at first.

Martha's love-struckness was really naff, though. Who'd have thought that spending an entire series telling the audience that the new cast isn't as good as the old one would have been a bad idea, eh? And, truth be told, I think Billie Piper is a much better actress than Freema Agyeman.

Donna, I think, will be okay, as long as Russell doesn't fall in love with her in the way that he was with Rose. He does seem to like his gobby characters, and that's not always a good thing.

Rose without a shadow of a doubt. I don't think Freema is as talented as Billie - I believed Rose more than Martha. Martha's jealousy of Rose all the way through series 3, the way she acted like a love-sick puppy, didn't like her family - Rose, Jackie, Mickey and Pete made series 1 and 2 for me. Billie Piper is a far better actress also in my opinion.

I just don't think Martha or Donna can compare to Rose.
