Ive just had an email from The prodcution team.
the only difference is they are admitting ALL 3 finalists got a busy tone but this was down to the sheer number of calls.
But the general gist of the email is they arent to blame for anything,so dont be a bit surpised we hear from ofcom shortly.
i would copy and paste the email but theres a privacy statement at the bottom of it.

Well that was to be expected, since it has been perfectly obvious from the word go that fans of all three acts had difficulty getting through.

No technical fault, just high call demand.

Justice done.

The only thing to change from the tone of the 2 emails the 1st they basically said no one apart from virgin customers had a 'minor' problem.
whilst ive never screamed fix i think it will be the last time i vote when they hyped up this battle of the nations any logical person would realise the call numbers would go through the roof.
itv has a huge problem on its hands its lost the trust of the voters.

I think as long as it is established no act was effected more than any other it is ok. I put across to Ofcom myself that I couldn't get through to Leon, though this was more to ensure they had accurate data than me having any real issue with the phone lines. It has always been as busy on finals night as it was this week.

The series 2 final was the last one I voted in and i could not register a vote for Andy after the phone lines reopened at all. But I didn't go crying to Ofcom about it because I understand that high call volume is commonplace on these shows.

What! Gordon Brown sent a note to Rhydian! Looks like he's just lost another supporter. Should he be looking for data discs somewhere?

"Viewers and many Sun readers claim the phone poll was a fix. More than 2,400 angry fans complained to the TV watchdog about the vote and demanded an inquiry."

How come that on Sunday ONLY 80 people said they couldn't get through to vote then after being told to complain on Rhydian's website those numbers have been rising!!

Well it is the Sun newspaper... what can you expect? Leon's fans wouldn't read such trash so therefore wouldn't be able to have taken part in their 'poll' that Rhydian won!!!

Why don't the Daily Record or the Scotsman run a poll? That might tell a different story!!!

Maybe the Leon fans should do the same and complain... As Leon won, they're less likely to be concerned but maybe if these Rhydian people are HONEST they'll say that they got the 'engaged' tone but no more often than the Leon fans did!

Ah so I take it then that Leon fans wouldn`t have known about the Scottish Sun campaign to Vote For Leon all last week

As I said... his fans probably don't read that paper and are more likely to be Daily Record readers.... or the Scotsman!

They must feel pretty confident that everything is above board.

After the recent controversies - R&J, Ant & DEc etc, I'm sure ITV were very aware they were under scrutiny.

I'd like them to publish the results for the whole series - weekly breakdown...now that could be interesting.

I very much doubt so - but Leon could have won on the votes if Rhydian fans stopped voting and/or the proportion of votes cast in round 2 was fairly high. The anti-Rhydian/pro-Leon VTs would have swayed some folk.

You mean the one like the Welsh campaigns to vote for Rhydian?

Will people ever accept that Leon won because more people - me included - liked him? Is that so hard to grasp!l

Someone made a sweeping generalisation that Leon fans were unlikely to read The Sun and I replied............nothing to do with "accepting that Leon won"

Of course there are going to be more complaints from Rhydian fans to various media outlets because he didn't win and they are upset. Leon fans had just as much difficulty in getting through but because he won, we had no need to complain. I'm sure Leon fans wouldn't have taken it as badly as this if he had lost.

Dermot said at one point there was only 1% between the two of them. Both sets of fans rushed to the phone and people are wondering why they couldn't get through. The lines were engaged and that's all there is to it.

not consistent with the way they often ganged up and descended on threads mob-handed to crush any realistic appraisal of his perfromances and how often they got people banned.

I made one report - for somebody calling Rhydian a paedophile - I wonder who that person supported...

only Leon fans got me banned and it was overturned when somebody actually looked at what I said in context. silencing critics did not make Leon sing any better in the early weeks or stop dancing like a Thunderbirds puppet in later shows.

he won, but there is the whiff of unfairness about it.

Now call me cynical, but could it possibly be that the statement was made to encourage people to call in so that they could increase income? I do recall that last year they did something similar in stating that the lead had changed several times which was followed up by the "if you want your favourite to win..." message

Sylvia, I think your exclamation mark key might need attention, it seems to get stuck rather often when you press it down. Like this !!!!!!

That was my reading too.

If ITV do give a detailed breakdown of the voing during the Final - it may reveal if Dermotts comment was indeed a ploy to encourage voting.

we are very unlikely to hear from ofcom soon, they normally take several months to investigate this sort of thing, itv's email to you is more likely an attempt to reassure people that nothing went wrong, ITV know they have questions to answer and are doing their level best to be seen to do everything properly.

The concerning thing is a few people seem to have been charged for getting through to an engaged tone and this means ofcom will have to be seen to act.
Also the high level of complaints will mean ofcom will feel the need to be seen to something.

Many questions need answering:

1. If they knew the phone lines were getting jammed, why make such a big deal of the 1% and therefore encourage an even bigger surge of calls, thus jamming the lines even more.

2. Why was the phone in system not better setup to handle the volume of calls (I know even the best system cna become jammed), but the technology is availble that only a few people wouldnt get the engaged tone. Not the thousands we are hearing off which of course doesnt include those who didnt complain.

3. ITV should release the actual voting figures, not percentages, Why wont they ?

4. The fact voters for all 3 acts couldnt get through means the result had everyone been able to get through couls have been vastly different e.g leon might have won by more, sd might have been in the final 2, rhyd might have won etc, ITV need to publicly apologise, yet again why not?

5. If people have been charged but never got through, are ITV and the phone companies going to accept this and refund customers.

6. How are ITV going to improve the system so next year the same doesnt happen.

I believe a lot of the problems with the voting stem from the land lines phones being jammed.

Apparently mostly mobile phones got through. I personally voted only with my mobile.
