Which gets us to the scary position that journalists often create public sentiment rather than reporting it. Somehow reminds me of one of my favourite-ever sf stories, in which a time-traveller goes back to watch Christ being brought before Pilate. He has been instructed to shout for the thief Barabbas to be released rather than Christ, as that is what happened and he must not change history. But as he does so, he suddenly realises that those shouting for Barabbas are all time-travellers like himself, and the real locals are not joining in. And he suddenly realises that it could all have been different...

I think the real question is why are they picking on VOTD and trying to find some incredibly weak parallel with Jesus ("Um...the Doctor saves people in this story...and, er...he does it in a kind of magical way, so... um, that's kind of like Jesus, right? Yeah, that'll do!") while ignoring the more blatant religious iconography of something like Last Of The Time Lords?

Paint me cynical but in the last week there's been an abnormally high number of Doctor Who related stories. You might almost think that most of these stories are planned in advance to increase the show's profile just before it's shown on TV

I think they're trying to 'promote' Christianity, but doing it very badly it makes all Christians seen like moaning people when only people like Mr Green are.

Although the most obvious link to make would be to Count St Germain, Someone who could apparantly practice alchemy, Never age and appear at different points throughout time, And furthermore someone who repeatedly changed his face and met madame du pompodaur

There's a neat idea. Cartophilus was supposedly condemned to wander the Earth for all eternity because he took the piss out of Christ while he was dragging his cross to the crucifiction. But I like the idea of The Count St. Germain. He's always intrigued me. He could definitely have been The Doctor or at least Timelord!
