The washing bit is disputed:

And you need to thaw it for quite some time before cooking, depending on size.

Well as you haven't defrosted the bloody thing it doesn't really matter.

Agreed, bird will have gone though all that and been microbiologically swabbed during process. Cooking at the correct temps will kill all bacteria anyway

do you defrost it after you cut the giblets and neck off or before?

Before, you'll find it very hard to remove giblets while it's still frozen.

My turkey is moving to the fridge just before bed tonight so it is fully thawed by Tuesday but it's a big bird and I prefer to fridge thaw rather than do it at room temp. If it's smaller and you do it at room temp it will take less time.

Dont slow cook on a low temp as that can bring out maggots that live inside it .

Aren't you glad you are not going to the OP's for Xmas dinner.

Tonight I will be dreaming of Beth in her jimjams staggering to the fridge with her large frozen turkey whispering we have ways of thawing you.

I tend to put it in the oven till it is cooked. However, we now just have a smallish turkey crown.

That poster is a PBU who was caught out on another forum saying he's going to bump really old threads just to 'get back' at DS for banning him. And he's going to keep re registering under different names and bumping everytime he gets banned. sad really.

I need to buy mine soon, before they run out. I'm also undecided whether or not to cut a cross shape in the bottom of my sprouts before I put them on the boil.
