Leon's not bad
Looking back at the performances, i have realised that leon actually has a really good singing voice when he stays in tune. With some lessons and the right songs he could be around for a while yet
However, the song that will be xmas number 1 is possibly one of the blandest songs/versions i have ever heard |

He would have been better with Long and Winding Road. I might even have been temoted to buy that myself - although I don't really buy singles. |

I can't wait to see how he develops. agree about the single too, but luckily I don't think it matters, as it will do well regardless. It all depends on what he follows up with. |

I agree Leon isn't that bad. But the problem is - he isn't very good.

But that was the only song Leon was able to give a decent persformance of!

Leon's songs didn't have the grandiosity of Rhydian's performances, but it was his feel for the songs and the lovely warm tone that earned him his support. A lot of us followed his live performances on Youtube as well ie singing with Michael Buble at Wembley and at the Livingston Centre. |

Not quite true - there was You don't Know Me, Crazy Little thing Called Love, Home, Long and Winding Road, Relight My Fire, Fly Me to the Moon . I liked his first performance too, even though he didn't impress Simon.

I just meant to say that he didn't always do himself justice in some of the songs. Actually I was forever willing him on not to be so nervous. |

You're so right about that.

That's classic That's like me saying that I'm a good cook when I don't burn the food.Leon had a couple of very good performances ('The Long and Winding Road' and 'You Don't Know Me') but other than that, he was mediocre bordering on the poor. His performance of 'When You Believe' was the vocal equivalent of anaesthetic. Unfortunately, the recorded version is even worse. |

The OP is spot on - great post.
People voted for the potential they can see in Leon, and maybe Rhydian was just too professional? |

Do you consider Tom Wait or Lou Reed to be good singers I wonder, or is your criteria being note perfect? Example - Cliff Richard is never out of tune but I can't stand him.

Someone who is 'too bad' winning a national singing competition? What next - someone who is passably good looking winning Miss World - someone who can rustle up beans on toast winning Master Chef? No harm to the lad but it's a national embarassment to think that people voted him the best in X Factor. Or did they think they were watching a competition called 'The Sympathy Factor' where viewers voted for the best sob story

Sadly, Leon has none of the above in any reasonable amount. |

Please don't compare Leon to Tom Wait or Lou Reed! Just because some acclaimed singer/songwriters don't have technically perfect voices (and I'd add Bob Dylan to that list) doesn't mean that a Leon with his charisma bypass and total lack of passion for singing is in their league

I can only speak for myself and I voted for Leon because he was the only one I consistently enjoyed watching and listening to. On the repeat I had to fast forward everyone else's, including Rhydian's rather tedious performances in the latter stages of the competition.

![]() and also that he wasn't an accomplished dancer If you can't understand that he won in spite of those things then you'll never get what the rest of us see in Leon. I can't agree with you about him having a charisma bypass or having no passion for music either. |

I'm not saying that all Rhydian's performances were on an equal footing but give him credit - he never came near the level of tedium that Leon reached on 'Long and Winding Drone'

![]() ![]() I have relatives and friends in Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand who have either been able to pick up 'X Factor' on cable or satellite, or performances through 'You Tube' and other internet sites. They either find it appalling, ludicrous or hilarious that the UK public voted for the mediocre Leon over the excellent Rhydian and other far superior acts. |
