Jaffa cakes are remarkably low in fat and calories, much less than any equivalent cake, biscuit or chocolate. 46 calories per cake!

Yes, but eat a packet of 10 & that's 460 calories.

A Big Mac has 493 calories.

There was a famous court case a few years ago about whether they were biscuits or cakes - something to do with VAT, I believe.

We had a long debate about this (well, it's the sort of thing you talk about in the pub) and I've been convinced by a friend that they're cakes.

You see, biscuits go soft when they're stale and cake goes hard. Jaffa cakes go hard when they're stale, ergo they're cakes.

I think that's brilliant logic...

...mind you, perhaps I'm just easily impressed.

Err yes they are?! There is 1.0g of fat in one Jaffa Cake so If you ate, say, one box of Jaffa Cakes thats about 12g of fat... thats about 8.5% of your RDA. Plus each Jaffa Cake contains 46 kcals so if you ate a whole pack it would be 550 odd kcals!

Has anyone tried the Polish version. They come in orange, cherry, or raspberry.

For $1CDN a packet, dirt cheap and really tasty.

I think they must have been limited edition. At first I think they were only available in Ireland. I found them in a few shops over here towards the end of last year, but haven't seen them since Christmas.

Shame, they were the nicest ones I've tasted.

Oh right.......don't think they had them up here.
I'm a purist....it has to be the originals for me. I tried the lime ones once.....didn't like them much. I wouldn't touch the raspberry ones.

They are most definitely cakes.

I'm a purist and don't engage with these fruit variations. How could you possibly improve upon orange, anyway?

I agree. Also you can't really call them Jaffa cakes if they aren't orange, surely?

Lime cakes or Raspberry cakes don't have the same ring to them do they?

Exactly! Plus a Jaffa is a type of orange, so calling those Jaffa cakes just doesn't make sense (neither does this sentence but you get my point?!!).
