Stock cubes

just a mention for Kallo organic stock cubes (available in tesco and everywhere else most probably). i tried oxo and Knorr ones and couldn't really see why people used stock cubes as i thought they were nothing special. these Kallo ones on the other hand really do seem to enhance whatever you use them in, plus as a bonus they seem to be made with entirely with 'proper ingredients' too (no e numbers etc)

Where can you buy Mexican Oxo cubes these days? My OH swears by them, but I can't find them stocked anywhere.

You can get them in Sainsburys.

I can only speak for vegetable stock cubes, but I'd recommend Kallo stock cubes as well. I've tried Knorr and found them acceptable enough, but I've always heard Oxo cubes are quite salty so have never tried them. Kallo cubes are really good and as mentioned by the OP, do seem to add a little bit of extra flavour over other stock cubes, so are well worth trying even if it isn't a well-known brand.

I make loads of soups and use the Kallo 'Just Bouillon' stock cubes.

I think they're suitable for vegans too.

I only ever use organic stock cubes. Can't bear the thought of having concentrated rubbish in my food. We don't have Kallo where I live now, but I used them when living in Ireland.

Since I immensely enjoy eating meat, there is no way on earth I would settle for vegetarian type stock cube, for me it has to be the meat type stock cubes, and they have to be the Oxo brand too, otherwise, forget it!

Good post OP, Kallo are great, plus being organic, are a lot more ethical as well.

For vegetable stock I prefer the Bisto Stock Melts or Knorr Stockpots, the ones that are concentrated stock in a plastic pod. Although the Bisto ones look stronger they have a more rounded flavour. The Melts/Stockpots seem less salty than stock cubes too, so are better in soups.
