An open plea - be gracious!
Psychosis
22-12-2007
This is an open plea to the supporters of Matt and/or Alesha. If your favourite loses - take it with a smile. If you can't take it with a smile, pretend you can. I know as an Alesha fan that she would hate to find that her supporters have been throwing tantrums and attacking posters, attacking Matt & Flavia, and whining about phone scandals and the like if she doesn't win. She'll be grateful for the experience, and as fans, that's all we can ask for - and we can do the same in response! I'd imagine that Matt will be the same.

Be happy for the winner if you can, and if you can't be happy for the winner, at least respect the winner and his or her fans. Let's show the kind of character we're made of and avoid becoming the debacle that was the X-Factor forum last Saturday Do Matt, Flavia, Alesha and Matthew proud!

That's me out *salutes*

There's also the behaviour of those whose favourite wins. Sometimes it can be pretty hard for fans of some of the losers to take, and so they'll strike back. Even heaping praise on the winner can have people thinking it's too much, or that it implies negatives about others, and so throwing in criticism for balance, with things then degenerating from there.

Quite honestly my reaction to this injunction was to gag.

I remember in my youth, when all was innocence and light, there was a 'poetess' called Patience Strong who used to write poems for women's magazines, cards and calendars which peddled homespun and semi-religious philosophy in the most sickly, toe-curling language. I'm afraid you reminded me of her.

You're probably a lovely person, Psychosis, but please leave me to behave as badly as I wish without interference from anyone. Anyway, most of my bad behaviour is behind me; it was all expended on the semi-final fiasco and the cretinous judges.

Wot, like you have been towards Kelly on other threads ( raises eyebrow slightly) !
I agree personal attacks on contestants are very bad, but the judging, the show itself and any supposed or actual bias are fair game.

this is a forum where people come to discuss with others a difference of opinion, stop trying to spread love when there will be a clear divide tonight between matt and alesha's fans who are equally going to wanted their fave to win and will be upset if they lose, and they will wanted to voice that upset so let them get it off their chest. im sure you can all take harsh texts for one evening.

Have to say I'm middle ground on this.
Whilst I agree that people should try to be gracious looser (and winners!). The spirit of this forum is to discuss the competition and I hope that people still continue to do that tonight, and I hope with passion and excitement. Yes some people may end up offended and upset at critisism of their fav, but they'll get over it.
I do however hope that we don't end up like the Xfactor forum last Saturday as that was NOT discussion. It was a display of childish spite on some people's part (both winners and loosers I might add!). How discussing how one of the contestants looked like a mole was relevent I don't know, so as long as the critisim is relevent then get stuck in and enjoy the passion and excitement this competion brings!
See you on the board tonight SCD lovers!!!!!!

I'm soooooo excited, I think a small pit of wee might have just leaked out!

Discussion and debates are fine, and that's what the forum is about. Even talks of "fix!" or "SCD tour!" is OK if it's kept confined in relevant threads, and is argued in a civil, rational and non-personal way.

However, I do hope it won't descend into some playground name-calling where at every opportunity one fan would say "s/he's a bloddy **** and the way they moved their hands was asking for the sympathy vote" or something else as ridiculous.

So agree with no personal attacks, but I think discussion is fine.

Brook-bashers are just about the last people who should be attempting to set the agenda here.

Laughable.

I didn't ask for no discussion. And I have not been a Brook 'basher'. I haven't liked her but I haven't name called. That's the point. Be civil. And if you can't be civil... bugger off out of this thread
