Thomson DTI 6300 New User
Charenton
22-12-2007
I am a new user of the Thomson DTI 6300 DTR. I bought the DTR before I found this forum. After reading some of the comments I was a little dismayed and thought I had chosen wrongly.

However, up to now I have no complaints as such, just queries I can't find answers to in the user guide. I have no experience of the noise other people refer to and it has performed all the tasks I have asked it to do. Obviously time will tell. At the moment I think it was good value for money.

Can anyone answer me the following:-

Is there a quick way of getting back to the TV screen after using the Programme Guide etc, or am I resigned to keep pressing back, back, back...........?

I have read somewhere that if you have watched a recording part way through you can return to the place you left off next time. If this is true, how is it done?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you tried pressing "Live TV"? or if you're on the channel you want to watch in the EPG, press "OK"

In order to do this, you need to press "Library" not "Stop" or "menu". The item you were watching will be highlighted and have circling arrows next to it. This allows you to press Green to Resume. But I don't think it always remembers this when the box goes into standby, or if you watch another recording

where do you use the box? I use it in the bedroom. it is obvious that if you use it in the living room you won't notice that noise unless you try to sleep there during the night when no noises are around.

Thanks for your replies ironeagleuk, I will try them out and let you know how I get on.

You're right carlosfigueira I do use the box in the lounge. I am not a fan of watching TV in bed. I did have my PC in the bedroom once and I was downloading something overnight and the noise from the HD was unbearable. I soon moved the PC into the lounge too. If the DTR makes a similar noise to a PC I wouldn't want in the bedroom either.

Merry Christmas to you both.

I sleep fine with my Thomson I can barely hear either the HDD or fan.

Tried both pieces of advice and both seem to work OK, thanks.

However, I have come across a different problem today. As I was watching live TV I started switching channels and found that some channels were pictures with interefence and vertical stripes all over them. Other channels were perfect. I switched off at the mains and when switched back on everything seems OK. Any ideas what may have caused it?

Try the advice posted here with regard to switching off the RF Modulator if you don't need it....ie if you connect the DTR to the TV via Scart:

Menu > 4 > 2 > 7 then left or right until you get to OFF

Someone had a similar problem here

Thanks for the advice ironeagleuk I've done that. If you don't hear from me again on this subject then it's fixed the problem.

I feel like the poster in the other thread who said you must be fed up with us Technphobes.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Can anybody help? Just got my Thomson DTR 6300 for upstairs. Already have a recorder downstairs. It compares reasonably well. No PiP and yes, it's noisy. Also, had it for 3 days now, and not a clue as to what is happening with TUTV. (But still no sign of it working. Is there something else I need to do?)

My main problem is that I don't believe the remote control is working properly. It won't control the TV. I have tried both the numbers given on the provided list, and I get the single red-light indicating that the code has been accepted. But it still doesn't operate the TV.

Also, The only way I can turn the unit on using the remote is to press the standby button, and not as suggested in the instructions, by pressing the DTR button, or any of the number keys.

This leads me to suspect it is the remote control unit. Can it be re-set? Can I get another from thomson? I have had a bad experience of going through Tesco to get replacement parts, and the unit seems to work fine.

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Are you able to provide your TV make and exact model?

From what I recall, pressing the number buttons on the remote won't bring the DTR out of standby (this workss for TV though)....have you tried the standby button on the remote?

May have misunderstood but: The buttons marked "DTR" and "TV" are used first to set the handset to one or the other, then the power button (above the DTR button) brings the TV or the DTR out of standby/returns that unit to standby if it is already on

Sometimes the numbers in the list may not control a particular TV model, but it is worth trying other numbers near the ones offered as well
