I used to love making spaghetti bolognese or lasagna or buying both as ready meals from supermarkets. Now I just don't eat minced beef or ready meals with it in. I'm tending to eat more dairy products, pasta, eggs, fish, vegetables and anything that looks like what it's supposed to be like chicken. I've noticed though I have a lot of dried spaghetti in - I might just go to the local butchers and buy a small amount of minced beef and trust it's what he says it is. The local butcher's is probably the answer.

Are you completely against veggiemince? I don't want to look like I'm a crusading vegetarian, but I very much like my spag bol with veggiemince. I don't notice that I'm missing anything, but haven't eaten 'real' mince for decades so am way past the time of adapting to a slightly different flavour.

Returning to the topic here, I don't eat beef because I don't eat any meat. And things like the horsemeat scandal are certainly not making me regret this decision. If the completely wrong sort of meat can get through, who knows what other corners are being cut/rules being broken.

Containing horse is only a quality issue.

I might try the veggiemince WinterFire - thanks - I've never really liked a lot of meat anyway before the horsemeat scandal.
