A Christmas Special idea - a murder mystery?
How about it? Yes, we've had murder mystery appearing in The Robots of Death and Earthshock, the Doctor dressing as Sherlock Holmes and the forthcoming appearance of Agatha Christie in series 4, but how about a fully blown Christmas Special like Murder on the Orient Express? Miss Marple stories were popular on Christmas Day as Poirot stories are now, so it would be a good idea I think.
The Doctor could become a passenger on an intergalactic train on its last voyage, with its final destination being Earth. He befriends the conductor and a female roommate (if there was no companion with him), and the carriages are full of loads of aliens on journeys home, plus a royal figure whose reign has brought tyranny to his home planet. Overnight, he is murdered and several passengers are classed by the Doctor as suspects, whilst he also notices the poor construction work of the train is slowly collapsing. Not only that, but a rogue alien is gradually forcing its way on board and threatens every planet it has stopped at, including Earth when it arrives. Can the Doctor solve the mystery and save all the planets? That's my idea anyway. Obviously it would be Christmassy. Remember that the original Orient Express got derailed in snow, which could lend itself to this story. But I have some more stuff if anyone wants to hear it? |

Sounds like a good story! What else you got then?
I'm always coming up with Dr Who story ideas. Only just started writing them down. I'd love to work on the storylines on Who, I'm actually thinking of changing my career direction to storylining, then possibly producing! |

'Murder on a spaceliner' has already been done: "Terror of the Vervoids" segment of "Trial of a Timelord" (1986)

I like your idea GR, seems like a good one for an xmas special. It may be nothing but in the latest DWM, RTD mentions that he's thinking about a Victorian setting for the '08 xmas Who special.
