Veggies/vegans - what are you eating over Christmas?
Can't see a thread on this so here goes.
![]() What you having for Christmas lunch/dinner, and other eateries over the festive season? Anything special? This year I've decided to have 'everything' except the meat. I usually have a mushroom loaf or something but have decided against it this year as I want to savour those lovely veggies. I don't much like fake meat either. So this is what i'm having: Roast potatoes/parsnips/onion Sprouts and chestnuts Carrots Braised red cabbage Yorkshire pud Home made gravy with caramelised onion and red wine. Cranberry sauce (made and in the fridge )Ho hum that doesn't look much does it? Wonder if i've forgotten something? ![]() Home made Christmas pud with lashings of cream. Also having some sosmix sausage rolls, pickles, veggie cheeses, crisps, sweets, chocs, nuts. Plenty of alcohol. Well maybe not 'plenty' - I get drunk fairly easily as I'm not much of a drinker, usually. ![]() Just had a slice of my Christmas cake; it's delicious if I say so myself. ![]() So what's everyone else having? ![]() I love the new food forum btw.

I just have whatever takes my fancy at the time, even if it isn't what could be called traditional. Once when I was still vegetarian, I had vegetable lasagne for Christmas dinner. I don't really celebrate Christmas anymore, but even now as a vegan if I was to have a special Christmas meal, I would probably still just have whatever I fancied, with perhaps some of the vegetables prepared for the meal everyone else was having.

This is my vegan Christmas dinner menu: Nut roast (which I'll probably buy ready-made from the local health food shop)Garlic and rosemary roast potatoes Sprouts with roasted chestnuts Herby buttery carrots Petit pois Redwood's Lincolnshire style veggie/vegan sausages Veggie bacon (to put round the sausages) Broad beans (someone in another food thread reminded me that I want some!!) Stuffing Bread sauce Onion gravy Followed by either home-made vegan pear and strawberry trifle, or Christmas pudding with Alpro soya custard or Swedish Glace vanilla ice creammmmm... *drool* Some favourite snacky-type things will be Kettle chips, dips, mushroom pate, falafel, puff pastry nut roast pinwheels, which I make with peppers and mushrooms, potato salad, shortbread, mince pies, um... that's all I can think of at the moment! ...washed down with copious amounts of Southern Comfort and cream soda...

I seem to recall they come in two varieties - Carrot and Coriander, and Tomato and Herb. I can't remember the manufacturer though. I'll have to try the Redwood sausages - I quite like their Sage and Onion slices, available at Morrisons.
I think my nearest Morrison's is over 40 miles away, but I seem to recall seeing those sage and onion slices in H&B - will give them a try if I can get some

It's definately not Cauldron. In fact very little of Cauldron's range I've come across is suitable for vegans. I'm racking my brain trying to think of the name of the manufacturer of the other sausages. They come in a plastic tray, with a predominately black cardboard sleeve, and do specifically state being suitable for vegans. I've never seen them anywhere else and despite having a good look around, I can't see them listed on the Waitrose website. In any event, I'm not keen on coriander so don't buy those ones, but the tomato ones are really nice.

That's the one. It's been driving me crazy for hours that. It is tomato and garlic, not tomato and herb as I stated earlier. As you say, it doesn't mention being suitable for vegans on their website, but it is clearly stated on on the packaging.

My arm is recovering from surgery so I'm not cooking this Xmas. We'll be having loads of alcohol and oven ready veggie samosas, onion bhajis and spring rolls!! I normally make a huge four course vegan meal but not well enough (even apart from my arm) this year! (My vegan trifle is yummy!

Starter: Melon and cherries.
Main meal: Quorn roast covered with veggie bacon slices. Roast potatoes, roasted veggie lincolnshire sausages, bread sauce, cauliflower and sprouts. Dessert: Tesco luxury individual veggie Christmas pudding with double cream and fresh raspberries. Then a selection of veggie cheeses. |

Roast taters and parsnips, Yorkshire puddings, carrots, cabbage, sprouts, gravy and a portion of nut roast, I believe. For New Year's Day I'm having a 'beef' and ale pie, made with Quorn beef-style pieces, mushrooms and carrots with a nice beery gravy. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! *drools in anticipation*
I'm starving now just thinking about it!
