Samsung LE46M87 & Virgin Samsung STB - IR beam blocked!!

Here`s one that has me stumped;

A week ago we had Virgin TV added to our cable service. After the Pace box died (after only 7 hours!) we got a quick replacement of a Samsung SMT2100C STB. No problems.

Yesterday we upgraded our CRT to a new Samsung LE46M87 LCD. The Cable STB is on a shelf to the left of the LCD just above the bottom height of the LCD. Power on the TV and the STB refuses to accept any infra red commands, from neither the Virgin remote or my taught Pronto. Power the TV off (onto standby) and the IR LED on the STB blinks saying it is receiving again. Power on, no IR to the STB.

Now the weird part - moving the STB around made no difference. However, the LCD is on a pivot stand. Rotate the screen about 20 degrees away from the STB and bingo - the STB receives IR again. Rotate the LCD back, and it`s blocked again.

What can an LCD TV be emmitting that blocks the signal only on a certain plain? Is it the screen lighting somehow leaking out of the rear of the LCD? None is visible. Is the LCD spewing Infra Red all over the room? No idea.

Anyone else had this experience?

BTW; the 46M87 has the best HDMI upscalled DVD image I`ve seen anywhere. Truely stunning. Just don`t mention the PIP mess.

I've just got a 46in Samsung and my Sky+ remote went slow, it does seem to have recovered now though.

Have you tried turning down the backlight, these sets give off an awful lot of light, must have some effect on the remote waves.

I love how long cable boxes last! The Pace ones give the xbox 360 a run for their money in the worst consumer electronics awards, well that might be pushing it a bit!!, but not by much! lol Weird second prob though, whats the t.v. doing to yer eyes! Whoa best not thought about.
