Maybe I am naive but what on earth is wrong with honey? If people didn't encourage bees (by giving them hives) to make honey then what would pollinate all the plants that vegans feed on? Surely honey is one of the most natural foods?

Was vegetarian for 10 years, and have now been vegan for just over a year and a half.

Here's a link from the Vegan Society about why honey isn't vegan:

I've been a vegetarian for 20 years, no meat or fish - also no leather products which is a right pain trying to find womens shoes in a size 3 non leather! So when I find 1 sutable pair I normally buy 3 so that I have some in reserve until I come across non-veggie shoes again.

I do have milk (in tea, haven't found a soya milke I like!) and eat veg friendly cheese....was thinking of going vegan - is it that hard to adapt to?

It might be easier to just give you a link. Sorry, I know I'm being lazy but it's 2.45am New Years day!

I have the same problem. Where do you all go to buy your shoes?

Well, I guess it depends on what you want. Plenty of cheap shops do non leather shoes such as New Look. If you want something with a bit more quality perhaps then try veganstore, Vegetarian Shoes, BBoheme, Ethical Wares. That's just a selection of sites but if you go into shoe shops or fashion stores selling shoes there are plenty made out of synthetic materials. I am a vegan and I have many dozens of pairs of shoes and boots, none made out of leather!!

There is plenty of vegan cheese, not readily available in supermarkets unfortunately but you can get it in health food shops and Holland and Barrett. It's not great on it's own but it's fine in cooking and for melting on pizza's or on toast etc.

Vegetarian Shoes are brilliant - good looking shoes, last a long time (I've had a pair of trainers from them on everyday for 10 months that I've only just replaced) and fast delivery (or go into their shop n Brighton - that's how I found them on holiday!).

You can buy vegan-friendly cheese at Waitrose, as well as Holland & Barrett as mentioned. It goes by the name 'Cheezly', and it made by Redwood Foods who also produce several other vegan foods.

As for shoes, I've always gone to Brantano. They don't have the best choice of non-leather shoes, but they usually have a few pairs available giving you a choice. I'm not sure how good they are for women's shoes with me being a guy, but it might be worth a look.

What the hell are vegetarian shoes?? I assume they are not made of leather but of wonderful eco friendly plastic or slave friendly cotton products.

I wonder if you would be making a similar comment if shoes made out of human skin were commonly available to buy, and some of us were choosing to avoid them. We can't always know whether our shoes (etc.) have been ethically produced, but we can at least choose to avoid buying those that we know for sure have been made from the skins of innocent slaughter victims.

I'm a vegetarian of 8yrs, living with vegetarian of 24yrs. I'd love to be vegan but although I can do without eggs and already use soya milk and cream instead of dairy, I really am struggling to live without cheese!

I have non-veg shoes I'm afraid, but none I've bought new for a long, long time. My new years resolution is to buy veggie shoes only from now on.

Someone always has to go to the ridiculous. But how can you justify using plastic or man made materials that poison the kids working with them and slave industry driven cotton product production over a natural bi product of a natural human diet just because it involves a cow?

There a series on BBC3 next week called Kill Eat, Cook It, Eat It which all meat eaters should watch.

Also, on C4 on Friday there's a similarly themed programme presented by Jamie Oliver concerning chickens.

Have been lacto-ovo-veg since I was 9. Thats a good 23 yrs in anyone's estimation. Have dabbled with veganism but am just not dedicated enough and I quite like cheese.

I have had a huge bone injury which makes me think I just should drink a pint of milk a day. I do try to make it organic & free range though.

I do wear leather shoes though. I'm well aware of the reasons why I should or why I shouldn't.

I guess its a trade off of wearing plastics that are shocking for the planet but are very poor-wearing, or wearing leathers that are shocking for animals and shocking for the planet but will last ten years longer.

Please go and find out information before making yourself look like a lemon.

The cotton industry has got nothing to with 'vegetarian shoes'. Nor are such shoes made from 'plastic'. Where do you live? .. 1971?

Also try and discover how many toxins are used in leather shoe production.

Leather is not a "natural" by product of the human diet. lol It's a by-product of the meat industry. lol

Don't tell me... men in caves argument right?

I'll keep my leather shoes thanks, they have served me well for the last 10 years and will last a lot longer than a pair made of plant stuff.

Woke up one morning and thought that I'd never eat meat again...and I never have!(15 years now I think.)

I don't eat eggs, cheese or honey or wear leather. I am trying to cut out milk and try alternatives in my tea. They all taste a bit rank though.
