Thinking about all this talk about how people sound singing live i was watching T4 earlier the scissor sisters live show from O2,im a huge fan but was truly shocked how awful the singing from jake shears.
looking at his performance and nearly every single person who was on X factor id say the xfactor people sung better live for sure.

Thats weird, when I saw the scissor sisters live at the NIA november 06 they were brilliant, the vocals were great

There are a lot of good live acts out there, but it does seem less important these days, what with backing tracks and so on.

I think we are often quite harsh on XF acts when they do quite often put some fairly successful acts to shame with their vocals...

Plenty of good live singers out there who sing week in week out

They may sing in pubs and clubs (which people on here think is bad)

but they earn a good living from it

lol. There are HEAPS of fantastic live acts out there.

They just don't bother with the nonsense that is the X-factor, because they don't need to, because they have something rare called talent.

Get out to some pubs and clubs that feature live music and you might be pleasantly surprised.

True, but they don't get the exposure the XF gets all the wishy-washy wannabees.

True, in XF you get a rare talent here and there..a Will...Shayne..Leona..Rhydian...but , for the rest, Xf is more about sob stories, some "journey" stories and such. Yes, they sing live, but most have backing vocals carefully arranged to hide their lacks.
I like singers than can start singing at the drop of the hat, without backings and such and sound brilliant...

I have been in jazz clubs and felt emotional from a performance or two, but the truth is, they will never make it big unless they try and try - and anything is good as a platform.#

Oh, The Pogues are on TV.. going to listen to it, brilliant song!

Like Rhydian did on Wales News the other day singing 'Hark The Herald Angels Sing'.

Nonsense. There are plenty of bands/artists who are great live - including the vocals.

I'd rather fork out £30-£100 to see someone sing slightly off key in some parts than mime constantly throughout.

Sure, I've been disappointed at gigs before when the singer isn't up to scratch but I wouldn't say it was anywhere near being an epidemic.

Guess it just depends who you go to see. I find watching gigs on TV is never as good an indicator as actually going to see them though.

There are live performances of Home and Fly me to the Moon on Leon's single, 'When You Believe' and they are both brilliant.

Anthony Hannah (Ex Eton Road member rom last year's XF) is an amazing singer. If you have myspace....... www.myspace.com/anthonyjameshannah
He's fantastic. Check out Relax...... the notes at the start are stunning.

Ye, I went to see Scissor sisters last year, and was a bit disappointed, to be honest. I thought it would've been a lot more.....erm.... camp. Shocking tho lol

This is true. Its very hard to sing note perfect live, week after weekunder the immense pressures of x factor and I think we are so used to studio recordings that its easy to nit pick live ones.

Simon Le Bon on XF this year - a brilliant example of that. Absolutley terrible live singer. It was painful to listen to.

He's hardly fantastic on record though to be fair. On 'Wild Boys' Simon sounded like a bunch of cats being swung by their tails.

Yes, but if you took them out of the atmosphere of the club or the pub and put them on a stage in front of an X fax
ctor Crowd, most of them wouldn't cut the mustard. Steve is a good performerand has a good voice, but it's not distinctive enough to make his mark in the big wide world.

I disagree with this. It's the whole image that's wrong, just as Paul Potts image is wrong. Nothing wrong with either of their voices.
Ther have been lots of successful singers who don't sing half as well as Steve. For true success the public has to buy into more than the voice, and that's what's called the X Factor. Unfortunately it's very rare which is why the conveyor belt continues to churn out hopefuls and they keep falling off the end again

Simon Le Bon never could sing, he really is dreadful. I thought Jake Shears sounded ok on the telly concert. We also saw Scissor Sisters last year in Glasgow & they were quite disappointing. Another artist who's voice isn't that great is Madonna. Her live shows are fantastic, but the vocals can be a bit on the iffy side.

I beg to differ

singing infront of a northern club audience can be soul destroying sometimes if the 'right' crowd are not in

My daughter sings in the pubs and clubs infront of crowds from eight to 200 and then she can still get up andhold an audience in the Sage at Newcastle

I dont know why you mentioned Steve

and before you ask why doesnt my daughter apply for Xfactor,
she said its not worth it as she wont get an audition with the judges because she hasnt 'been seen' by one of them and she hasnt got a sob story so she wouldnt get past the production team
