News of the World - Leon and No1 fan on tough road to fame
thms

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/xfactor/2312_leon.shtml

POSING together for the first time since that incredible X Factor triumph, winner Leon and his mum Wendy speak exclusively to the News of the World about their tough life together.

Their inspirational story, marked by tragedy and grinding poverty, led to 18-year-old shop worker Leon capturing the hearts of the nation. Now they tell Jane Atkinson and Rav Singh about single mum Wendy's struggle to bring up the boy she doted on—and reveal in moving and tender anecdotes what they mean to each other.

I think it's best to consider the story as one of human interest in the background of a person who has shot to fame very quickly.

I don't like the sob stories during the comp. but after the event is over, people are often genuinely interested in their celeb's background.

Look at how the story of Leon's mum kicking him out because of his interest in singing was supressed thoughout the live shows. And....people have criticised Leon for not 'doing enough' to show his commitment to singing. Not having lessons etc. Can't see how that would have brought harmony to the family if karaoke singing caused such upset.

Give Leon a break?

Yeah, I think its unfair to criticise him for not having singing lessons - they can be incredibly expensive and so I doubt Leon would have been able to get them. He comes across really well in that article.

If a "sob story" is just one that touches you, then I don't have any problem at all with them after a competition. Good luck to them. If that is their story and they are asked about it. They can either refuse to answer and the tabloids make it up anyway or they lie or they tell the truth. The only one I'd have a problem with is the second.

Good luck to them!
