Time for a new phone
I thought its best for me to get rid of my existing phone and buy a new one. I was wondering if anyone can recommend the phone that is right for me.
I would like the phone to be able to read email and also be able to connect to MSN messenger. I would also prefer to stay on a prepay tarrif rather than pay monthly. Do all networks offer GPRS on a prepaid basis? |

Also, as far as I know, all networks offer GPRS on prepay (no idea about cost per MB though). |

To give you an example, have you tried sending a picture to the Nokia 6100 via the infra-red link? You can't. Neither can you send ringtones. The only way to get them onto the phone is to use a data cable (not even sure if this works) or by MMS/downloading via WAP. With SE phones, you can send any filetype the phone will accept (that's .jpg, .bmp, .png, .tif, .gif .mid, .imy, .thm to name a few) over any transfer method the phone supports, i.e data cable, IrDA or Bluetooth. The SE T68 was released how long ago? 18 months at least. And yet Nokia still haven't released a mobile with Bluetooth functionality that even matches it, let alone exceeds it. Hell, they're forcing headset manufacturers to redesign their products, because Nokia won't support the standard Bluetooth 'headset' profile, and so the manufacturers have to make their headsets pretend to be car handsfree kits. SonyEricsson, of course, supports both... Most popular doesn't always equal best... |

Bluetooth is brilliant and so is virtually any SE phone.
Id avoid the SVP as its pants compared with P800 which is the best phone Ive ever owned. Was a little worried about its size at first but its features far outweigh that. I can listen to MP3 files with the memory stick duo, stream some video from the Orange site, use Bluetooth to use my HBH 60 headset and send and recieve files between other phones. When Ive done all that I can also search the full interent or wap, whichever Im in the mood for. Oh, yes and a built in email client and touch screen Find a phone that comes near it and ill be very surprised. And now on the interent you can get it for next to nothing. SE may not be #1 sales but when it comes to technology it is #1 by a long long way. |

Jammers, I'd be interested to hear your definition of 'next to nothing'. Even on eBay it's £250-300....

As I said in the 'best phone' thread, it lacks a number of things I'm used to from my old T68i, let alone my new T610
Bluetooth, for example, is now essential on any phone I'd even consider owning. It only has a 12-bit screen, as opposed to the 16-bit, slightly larger one on the T610. There's no built-in camera... The only way to do file transfer is by data cable! How silly is that? Even with my old T68i, if there was a pic or ringtone I wanted to give to a friend, we could both switch on IrDA or Bluetooth and quickly exchange it. WIth the Nokia 6800, or 6100 for that matter, I'd have to send it as an MMS message instead. Now with games, it's even more annoying, as they're mostly too big to be sent by MMS. You can't assign pics to contacts... It doesn't seem to support voice control either, which is useful when driving. Nor is it tri-band. And it only supports WAP 1.2.1, rather than 2.0 like my old T68i did... In short, the keyboard is nice, but the rest of the phone is average. |

You're not comparing like with like. The T310 is a mid-range phone, designed to compete with something like the 3510i.
The 7650 is/was aimed at the higher end of the market. SE don't have a product at the moment to directly rival its replacement, the 3650, which is an excellent phone. The T310 can accept MIDI files as polyphonic ringtones, by the way, and either Java or Mophun games, I can't remember which... |

SE may not be #1 sales but when it comes to technology it is #1 by a long long way. ok..lets compare. Firstly, the SPV is alot smaller. You said, i can listen to MP3's...you can with the SPV. It also has upgradable memory. You said stream video...you an with the SPV. You said, use bluetooth to send and receive files between phones, i think its possible to get a bluetooth sd card for the SPV(probs wrong though) but either way, you can use the IRDA to send files with the SPV. You said, you can search full internet, the SPV can do... You said, built in email client...the SPV goes one step firther, you can use MSN Messenger, a POP3 any method to check your email. You said, you have a touch screen...wow, this carnt be good for playing games! With the SPV a keyboard is coming out, and it will be able to be rolled up etc. Hmm, so...you said 'Find a phone that comes near it and ill be very surprised.'.. i think i just found that phone
