Ho

I've got a Humax PVR which is fantastic and I love it. What I want to know is - is it possible to get recordings off it and onto a PC or DVD?

If so, how. PLEASE use the most BASIC instructions as I am a complete technophobe - I only got the PVR as a gift but I LOVE it.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

The Humax has two SCART sockets. One goes to the TV, the other to a VCR or DVD recorder.

You have to record in real time (that is, play the program and let the other device record it). And there may be some adjustment of settings needed, to make sure that the output from the Humax is the same as the input to the recorder. Check the manuals (I don't feel like doing it myself). My recollection is that the Humax SCART to the Tv will allow for RGB signal (which is the best), whereas the one to a recorder has S-video as its best setting. I don't think you will notice the difference. You will have to set your recorder suitably.

As for transferring to a PC, it can be done, but for a complete technophobe I would recommend using a DVD recorder because it is much simpler.

I agree that for transferring programmes to a DVD a DVD recorder would be the easiest way, but copying programmes from the Humax to a PC isn't too hard.

You need the Media eLinker program (version 2) which should have come on a CD with the Humax, and a USB lead long enough to stretch to the PC (maximum 5 metres).

You can then play TV programmes on the PC and make video captures, using the (free) program VideoLan Client.

You can also play radio programmes and convert them to MP3 with the same program.

Burning vdeos onto DVD on the computer is a lot more complicated.

You can also copy music MP3s (via USB) onto the Humax, which includes a primitive MP3 juke box.

You can't copy programmes back onto the Humax.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have a DVD recorder but I like the sound of using connecting to a PC. Will my original recording stay on the PVR or will it be 'lost'?

It stays until you delete it on the Humax.
