I have a DVD recorder which is a Toshiba D-R160.

I recorded a programme onto a disc last night and followed the finalising instructions so I can play the disc on other players. The thing is, it wont play on any of the other players in the house.

Am I doing something wrong or are my other players just being awkward? It plays OK on the Toshiba.

It would play OK on the Toshiba whether it had been finalised or not. Try going into finalisation again - if it lets you try to finalise a second time then it didn't finalise first time - and there is something wrong with the Toshiba. If it doesn't let you try to finalise a second time then it could just be the type or brand of discs you are using that are incompatible with the DVD players that you own.

Does your DVD recorder allow you to select either VR or Video mode?, only Video mode (after it's finalised) allows playing on normal DVD players.

It does yes.

So if I switch to video mode to finalise, it will allow playing on other devices.

Thank you. Just trying to make it sink in. Im a bit of a technophobe but im getting there

I think you have to format the disk in Video mode in the first place (for DVD-RW discs).
