As long as it is well made with individually screened wires then you need pay no more than a tenner for one.

correct but also be aware that some of the cheaper ones in maplin for example dont have all the internal wires connected (for example they do one with just comp vid plus L/R audio both ways) which wouldnt give you all the function switching you need

A good IXOS one for around £30 is the minimum I would pay for a scart, even if you have a cheap TV.
