The quorn sausages are the best, and their burgers too.

^^

The problem with Quorn is that it all has egg it in, making the whole range unsuitable for vegans. When I was vegetarian, I always enjoyed the Linda McCartney range as it offered quite a large selection of products. However, even now as a vagen, while checking the vegetarian freezer for anything that might be suitable, I've noticed the Linda McCartney range has almost dried up to just sausages, and occasionally deep-filled pies.

And thanks to Snowfairy, I can now remember the name of my favourite sausages - Tomato & Garlic made by Wicken Fen, available in some Waitrose stores. For those mourning the apparent demise of the Linda McCartney tomato sausages, you might want to give them a try.

I'll look out for those.

Wow! Didn't realise this forum existed. How long has it been around? Please tell me it's only just started or I'll think I'm going (Christmas) crackers!

PS been trying to see how you get onto here from the main forum page, but can't see how to get to the food and drink section. And I haven't been at the Christmas spirits!

What is the point? A friend of mine is vegetarian, went on holiday and on the plane we got our meal, his included "vegetarian sausage" - he gave it to me as the reason he doesn't eat meat is because he doesn't like the taste or texture, so why make things that are similar!

If you want sausage then get a proper one with meat in!

I did wonder myself so I had a look - its under the General Discussion forums along with main GD, Advice etc.

Cos your mate isn't the only vegetarian in the world and lots of people are vegetarians for different reasons. Eg, food intolerances, other health reasons, ethical reasons or plain just don't like meat.

bottom of page. I think it's been there for less than a week.

Precisely. I always find it odd that some people don't get that.

Just like there aren't bits of Paul Newman in his dressing!
No, but exactly as in the case of Walls if you look at the label it is NOT Paul Newman Dressing it is Newman's Dressing. That is why I originally thought the Linda McCartney Sausages were made from Linda McCartney.

The list of Waitrose that carry them is here - http://www.wickenfen.co.uk/stockists.html . Unfortunately it doesn't seem like there are any that close to you, but they are stocked in some Holland & Barrett stores as well, so it might be worth checking you local branch.

Well meat = flesh, and vegetarian/vegan sausages can have the flesh of fruits/vegetables in them, so therefore they're sausages.

Thanks, TUO! I'll definitely try them. I've just bought some of the Redwood ones but haven't tried them yet. There's a couple of independent health food shops nearby and a Holland and Barrett.

Well, I have to admit to not having paid as much attention as you but perhaps the label refers to a place called Newman's Dressing or is advising people that someone called Newman is putting his clothes on or that the bottle contains pieces of a bandage that belonged to Newman?!

Let me explain
Beef sausages are made from Beef
Pork sausages are made from Pork
So are we to assume Linda McCartney Sausages are made from bits of Linda McCartney if so no wonder they are getting in short supply.
I just thought it a bit humorous.

But if it had said Linda McCartney's Sausages which would have been correct, as they were either made by her or rather by a company named after her.
The same way we do not say Wall Sausages, no they are not made with Walls but rather Wall's Sausages.
A letter "s" and an apostrophe can make a hell of a lot of difference to a meaning

Some people may have been meat eaters and enjoyed meat before becoming vegetarian for ethical and environmental reasons. Maybe they prefer to eat sausages with a clear conscience.
