Were Rhydian or Leon American Idol standard?
Simon Cowell sees American Idol as the gold standard as far as these sorts of show go. So could either Rhydian or Leon have reached the final of American Idol?
I think he did refer to Rhydian at one stage as "world class" and certainly he saw Leona as American Idol standard and said as much. In fact, didn't she appear on AI last season? Will Leon be asked to do the same in a few months? |

He also stated Rhydian had been 'consistently brilliant' and then there was the ''You know, this show CAN discover stars' remark. Other remarks included 'the vocal was perfect' 'the vocals at the end were incredible', 'that's only happened once before and that was Leona Lewis last years, it was THAT good'. I've no idea about the standard on AI cos I've never watched it, but I can't imagine Simon saying anything MORE glowing than this....can he?

As good as I thought Rhydian was I couldn't see him on American Idol. I don't think their core audience would 'get' him.
Leona and Shayne would fit in perfectly. |

I think he also said Brenda (XF2) was "as good as I've seen in America" after her excellent performances of I Will Always Love You and Without You.
Simon said Rhydian was "potentially world class" after POTO and not actually world class, but thats still high praise. |

This years AI was dire. I think Leon and Rhydian were probably better than the vast majority of acts on this years show by quite some distance.

Americans would love Rhydian because there is a new "fever" about classical songs and crossover in the US charts - just look how well BOcelli and others fared the last few years in there.
I am pretty sure that he will get a major break in America, the fanbases are popping up and the media there is speaking about him.

Leona and Shayne would fit in perfectly. I agree about Leona and Shayne but I also think Rhydian is clearly American Idol standard (whatever that is - let's not glorify the show, there have been some pretty poor contestants that have done well in it), as have been a couple of other acts during the four years that X Factor has been running. Sadly, not Leon, I'm afraid. He may have got to the live shows but would have been out pretty soon. |

Ha ha...he was a sweet kid, bless him, but erm, well....what else can you say...he did provide the most amusing moment of the series when the camera cut to that girl crying hysterically...

I must confess I tuned out at the final 4 stage having never really connected with any of the acts, I was pleased with the outcome though...

![]() Of course, hoping for a good year as it does seem that they have one good then one bad year on AI.... |

I thought last year's standard was very poor. Very much looking forward to AI 2008. At least you get country and rock singers on it....although there's usually too many soul divas for my liking.

The American guests in the series appeared to have no trouble "getting" him. The American media and market appears to have had not trouble "getting" the far less easily-marketed Paul Potts.

Sadly, not Leon, I'm afraid. He may have got to the live shows but would have been out pretty soon. Let's not forget that his Christian values would have found an audience in the US even if he hadn't been the amazing singer his is. He's got it made in the US and Cowell knows it to be true. |

Not sure about that, it was widely held that Mandessa's Christian values were part of what saw her voted out far earlier than one would have expected...
![]() Well, it will just have to be on the voice/star quality/stage presence alone, then. |
