Got a new hd tv this morning but everynow and then the picture just goes black but the sound is still on. Turning it off and on seems to fix it. I know its a long shot but does anyone know what could possibly be causing this? i.e options for it

I asked in General what could be wrong. It's a bush tv.

I would first check that all your cables are in correct, especially a scart cable if that it what your using. If its broken now I think you'd be better just taking it back.

Now that christmas has passed you might also be best getting your money back and buying a new one in the sales. You might be able to get a better one for the same price.
