Rip DVD with Easy Media Creator 10?

I've got EMC 10, so I figure that's all the conversion and burning software I need. However, it won't rip protected DVDs.

What is the current thinking on this? I don't mind paying for something to do the job better or easier.

My main aim is to save the stuff on my new iPod, but also to make a few backup DVDs to keep on my boat.

PS Happy Winterlude.

many softwares for dvd conversion do not rip dvds, companies in the past have been threatened with court action for offering both services [ripping+converting] in one package.
see dvdxcopy for an example

Sorry I didn't make it clear. I didn't want an explanation, just some suggestions on good software to enable the rip.

I always use Aimersoft DVD to iPod Converter to rip DVD to mp4 video, then use iTunes to transfer it to my iPod, it works really nice

If you stick with freeware, you can use DVD Decrypter to rip DVD, then use Videora to convert it to mp4 video, just google search for them.
