I've made a quick mix of the opening and closing themes if anyone wants to hear it without announcements and relatives all over it

Hope the link works http://dl1u.savefile.com/bff0795290a...d-thememix.mp3

Great job, after listening to it and looking back on old ones, it's actually a great version of the theme, it's got that Peter Davison era theme (Which Tennant obviously wants to be) to it and got that nice piano part which must of been inspired by the TVM. As for the new Drums and harder bass, I like it. Stop living in the past Who fans and open your minds (I'm asking the impossible there arn't I? haha).

I liked it
But I do miss that "electric" sounding doo-doo-doo
It's been replaced by violins now

Many many thanks, one final Xmas present to cap off a good day

Although I'm still undecided (since I'm typing this while it downloads!) a part of me is happy they actually change the theme every now and then instead of just leaving it.

Another one for the next Doctor would be appropriate too, since it's pretty certain to be at least two or three years away...

Thanks again EagleStriker!

Loved it. It is more fitting to the credits than the old one was. I used to think that it was lacking since it came back and that there was no oomph but my faith has been restored.

I really don't like it at all, it's a shame really, nothing wrong with the one they've used for the last three seasons and no reason why they had to change it. I hate it in fact. It doesn't go with the credits at all...when the Tardis comes up close to the scrren, it's suppose to make a noise, and doesn't or at least if it does it's lost in that clutter called an "Opening Theme Tune".

Doctor Who Theme - Remixed version - December 2007.

Recorded from BBC iPlayer with Audacity, encoded as MP3 zipped, currently residing within
the TV themes sub-folder of the Multimedia partition, on the secondary HDD inside my PC.

Download it from the aforementioned location above while I've got ShareNow running!

Does anyone know if the Beeb's credit squashing policy means we'll no longer get the "middle-eight" as part of the new tune over the end credits?

Also, since the policy states that credits must come at the end of the episode, are we now forced back to having the cliffhangers of two- and three-parters spoiled by the "Next Time..." appearing straight away?

My mind is perfectly open. I've been watching since Colin Baker was the Doctor and I've had something good to say about every version of the theme since then. Until now that is. I just don't like it. It doesn't feel like Doctor Who to me. And I don't consider myself hard to please, I like the theme of pretty much every show I've watched.

On Voyage of the Damned, the middle eight was all we did get, although the announcer talked all over it of course.

Was I the only one to find reading the end credits totally impossible, as they juddered by?

I thought it was okay - a nice twist for a Christmas special. Hope that they go back to the "original" reboot version for the TV season though.

Hated it.

And though the closing credits are now much larger - they went by so quickly I could barely read them.

I like this new version a lot. You need to listen to it a few times in order to hear all of the extra "little things" which are in there. There's a lot of interesting stuff in the closing credits too, which are sadly mostly obscured by the announcer. I look forward to the Series 4 soundtrack release, which will no doubt have a full (and extended) cut on there.

The real story behind all of this is the BBC's new rules regarding length and style of credits. They can't be longer than 30 seconds now, and they must use a large font in the center of the screen, in order to ensure that the credits are still readable when they do that zoom-out thingy showing what's on next on the other BBC channels. Yuck.

So, clearly the discussion at Doctor Who towers (a completely fictional place I have just made up!) went: "The BBC dictate that we need a shorter theme". "OK, well rather than bastardising what we have, let's do a new arrangement". "OK, then".

To the OP and others: This isn't a remix. It's a rearrangement. A nice one, IMHO. "More crash boom wallop", as Murray Gold would say.

Was I bit unsure at first when it was aired, as always with something new when you've been used to what you know, but after a few more listens, thanks for the download DJGM, I really like it, it has a very powerful opening.

The Who theme tune is one of if not the greatest theme tunes of all time, it would be pretty hard to balls it up anyway.

I think this new version of the DW theme, although I wasn't too keen on it at first, isn't as bad as
some people make out. My only criticism is that it seems to end too abruptly compared with the
previous version. The whooshing sound at the end has been omitted. If they reinstate that,
or a variation of it, the new theme would sound that bit better.

In my opinion though, the next version of the Doctor Who, should they decide to rework it again,
should be based upon the 1981 Peter Howell version ... IMO the best version of the theme from
the Classic era of DW. I think that certain parts of that particular version could quite easily
be recreated with electric guitars, alongside modern synthesisers.

Mind you, it does sound a bit like electric guitars have been used in this "rearrangement".

Yes, having rewatched the end today, you're absolutely right. Difficult to tell at this point how different that is, but at least we have the whole theme, even if in pieces.

Think I missed it before because attempting to read the credits as they scrolled past induced some kind of motion sickness. Bloody BBC.
