I've got the Product Red 8gb nano. I love it, it's my baby I bought it for £169 from the Apple site.

What makes me laugh is the price convert between US > UK.

For £150 you can get an 8GB Ipod Touch.

I have the 8GB Nano. It was explained to me that it had no moving parts, therefore would not experience problems if dropped or knocked. This was quite important as I am a) clumsy and b) travelling on public transport with it, next to even clumsier people.
I have currently 498 songs on it, having only put on my very favourite albums and my full iTunes library. So I have nearly three quarters left, but I think I might be surprised how quickly it fills up. I just spent a couple of hours loading tracks from various CDs and was shocked that I'd loaded on 75 songs in that time.

Four. Shuffle, Nano, Classic and Touch. The Mini is no longer made and the iPhone is something totally different.

Depends on physical size, and how you want to use it. I like having my full music library (around 65gb) in the car on my 80gb 5G iPod, but I find the 8gb on my iPhone is plenty to pick out my current favourites to listen to at work.
If you want something small, light and cute, go for the nano. If you're not bothered about size and have lots of music, go for the classic.

Have you considered Apple Refurbished iPods? I've had computers and iPods from them, just as good as a new one but cheaper. Doesn't come in a nice shiny white box, though, which is the only drawback. Full 1-year Apple warranty included as well as usual Apple Care options.

Stock does change daily, so grab it quick if there's one you fancy.

I've not got a huge music collection, at the moment I'm using my Sony Ericsson for music. But I like the idea of podcasts automatically updating etc so decided it was time to return to an MP3 player.

I don't want to spend more than the above, and I want to use my John Lewis vouchers. I guess I'm wise to wait for the sales, but obviously need to think ahead.

Is there anything quirky or better about any of the above makes? I don't think 4GB would be worth the money, but at the same time whilst the £159 models look appealing I'd never use all that up nor do I want something so big?

Apologies if anything here doesn't make sense. Wine is flowing... Merry Christmas ”

I hate to say it, but I'd still save up a couple of quid more and go for the iPod Touch... It's not a perfect player, but then again, neither are the nanos or classics.

Agreed, too, to be honest. The Touch is an excellent piece of engineering.

I've got a 16GB Ipod Touch for Xmas. And although people complain there isn't enough space on it for music....... I've uploaded nearly every CD I own on it and it has only taken up nearly 2GB of the space....... Amazing.

Plus I hardly download videos...... So I'll always have space lol.

I've got an 80gb Ipod Classic and the sound is okay, depending on the encoding you use - I've been using Exact Audio Copy with the Lame MP3 encoder set at a high bitrate and importing CDs that way results in some impressive sounding tracks. I reimported some CDs and heard aspects of the tracks that I hadn't heard before. Then there are some basic MP3s that you can get which just sound awful on the Ipod - because it really pulls apart poorly encoded tracks.

It has been nice to have easier access to podcasts, I could have put them on my Nokia mobile manually but Itunes makes it much easier.

I'd go for a larger capacity player - you'll quickly hit the 4Gb limit.

I just recently decided to swap out my 4gb iPod Mini. Faced with the choice of either a 8GB Nano at £129 or an 80gb Classic for only £30 more, the Classic was a no-brainer.

Delighted with it.

Does the software on the iPod classic still have some slowdown/unresponsiveness like the iPod (4th Gen)? Or is it as quick/responsive as old iPods and Nano/Minis?

Id pick the classic every time.

you can pretty much stick your entire cd collection on it

I bought a Classic 160Gb so I could get all of my music and some video on it.

It presently has 104Gb used; 13'000 songs, 76 videos and 11'000 pictures loaded on it.

With so many pictures, it's hard to use effectively. Sad but true - no respect for my folder setup.

With many videos, it's laborious as again, it has everything in a flat listing. I bought it in the US for $349.

I could have bought a Touch for the same price (16Gb) but elected for something which could take all of my ripped CDs.

Upon reflection, I should've got a Touch too. I watch a lot of video on it and the screen would've been great. The wife could then have used the Classic in the car.

I'm a third of the way through Blake's 7 viewed solely on the Classic and it's more than watchable - so I mustn't grumble!!
