Mmmmmm. That was one of the best meals of my life. We were in Italy and had been walking for ages (about three hours) down a mountainside in the heat with just water and then came to a sandwich shop at the bottom and had a mozzarella, tomato and basil roll with olive oil as the spread. Oh, my!

Had a red leicester and onion toasted sandwich for the first time today (usually use Cheddar). You're right!

I still remember an amazing sandwich I had in Boston over ten years ago. It was just wonderful. It was on banana bread, and had pickled red cabbage, smoked ham and mango chutney. It was amazing, but I've never been able to recreate it.

The best sandwich I've made is inspired by Friends, when Ross has the Thanksgiving leftover sandwich with a 'moist maker' in the middle. I always do one now, when I have a roast chicken (or at Christmas). Soak one slice of bread in gravy, and sandwich that between two normal slices of bread and cold meat. I usually do bread, then chicken/turkey/then the gravy soaked slice of bread, then some cranberry sauce or brie (or both) or maybe some lettuce, and then the third slice of bread. Mmmm, the gravy makes it all moist and tasty. Yum.

I used to go there as an occasional, expensive treat. I've gone off it recently though. The smell from outside is a little nauseating.

Egg and bacon any day of the week!

Though lately, I've been enjoying TURKEY sandwiches, and for the last few months, Corned Beef - not out of the tin, but flat corned beef you get in packs. Gorgeous!

- that, and Marmite

I've never tried Marmite in a sandwich. I don't think I could hack it anywhere but on toast. Is it best eaten with cheddar cheese? Someone suggested Marmite and lettuce to me once!

Subway is average at best. It's like the McDonalds of sandwiches.

It is seriously yummy, but only use a very small amount of marmite or it will overpower the cheese.

Smoked Cheese, Smoked or Peppered Ham with Cucumber, with the added ingredient of Wasabi Mayonnaise.

Wasabi (Japanese Horseradish) is so much better then mustard or regular horseradish sauce. Its certainly one way to clear your sinuses if you have a blocked up nose

You're right about both! I only have salami as an occassional treat. The salami can be replaced with lean ham but it's nowhere near as tasty!
