Hi
I have been reading these forums for a few years now and I have'nt come across an answer to this problem yet.
this is my first posting on here and I am hoping you can help.
here goes..
I have a LG 37" lcd with built in freeview, a Toshiba sd370e dvd player,Iam about to buy a humax 9200tb pvr and also want to replace my old Lite-on 5006 dvd recorder with a new one.
I have been looking around quite a bit and I find for less than half what I originally paid for the Lite-on,I can now buy a dvd recorder with a hard disc and built in freeview.my question is will all these hard discs and freeview receivers be ok all wired together?will they all interfere with each other?
I don't really need the dvd recorder to have a hard disc or freeview, but just thought that the prices where really cheap compared to the nearlly £250 I paid way back when
I hope somebody can help with this.thanks in advance

Hi

They will not interfere but it may be a mess joining them all up at the back and switching between them.

Not sure why you need a DVD Recorder and player as a DVD Recorder will also play DVDs of course?

1. Save wear and tear on the DVDR mechanism/drawer.
2. Maybe player has facilities (divx playback, USB/Card slot, CD+G or Karaoke (mic sockets)) which would not need to be duplicated in a recorder.

Maybe if the DVD Recorder was hugely expensive, but the cost of these things these days you don't need to worry about a bit of wear and tear, they are designed to be used and most equipment gets replaced before it has started failing.

Yes good point, although a lot of DVD Recorders are coming with this stuff, and the original posters DVD player does nothing exotic. My "not sure why they need a DVD player and recorder" was a question to the original poster, not a general statement

Hi
Thanks for answers to my post.I do not need both player and recorder but player has hdmi and Divx playback I found that my old Liteon was noisy and slow,so i very rarely used as a player.
dont know what newer recorders are like for fan noise.
I have seen a couple of recorders for less than £130,
Toshiba DR17DT with hdmi and divx playbackand built in freeview=£124.99 @ Empire Direct
Sony RDR-GX350B with Divx and hdmi ( no freeview) =£92.99 @ Multizone AV.com.
would anybody know anything about these dvd recorders.if they where ok as players as well as recorders I can always take my dvd player to my bedroom to use for the Divx playback.
thanks again in advance for any replies.

Hi

If you are using the HDMI connector then the DVD Player/Recorder has little influence on the final picture quality. The issue of how good the upscaling is may come into play, however most TV's do a good enough job that you can ignore the upscaler in the recorder and output the video at it's native resolution. This can often give you a better picture as then only one lot of scaling is being applied, rather than the DVD Player/Recording have a hack around with the pixels only for your TV to still want to play around with them as well

As for fan noise, well that's a good point and a different ball game all together, and what's someone else's noise and annoyance can go completely unnoticed by someone else. Maybe ask over at www.avforums.com or ask in the Sony forum here.
