Sony hxd870- Recording from camcorder.

Hi. I'm thinking of buying this model to copy my mini dv camcorder footage on to dvd. Is it quite straight forward to do? Also, this may sound stupid, but I'm a complete novice at this.. I've recorded my camcorder footage in widescreen. So will I have to set the dvd recorder up on a widescreen tv when I copy the footage to dvd for it to play in widescreen? I hope that makes sense! thanks.

It look fairly simple, from the manual(page 104 onwards)
As for the widescreen issue,I don't think it should matter whether the viewing tv is widescreen or not,but don't quote on me on that.

I've had a dabble with this using my JVC Mini-DV camcorder set to record anamorphic widescreen (that's the setting that makes everyone tall and thin on its 4:3 viewfinder).

My home set-up is a 16:9 telly attached to my Sony HXD-870.

I copied the contents across and they came out the right shape first time with no alterations to settings.

If I were you, the only setting I'd alter is to make the Sony's record mode the highest quality possible so that there's little or no loss when copying back to a DVD (I assume that's what most people will want to do with it after editting out all the bits where you've accidentally shot your feet etc).
