I got a new Blackberry "Curve" 8310 smartphone for Xmas.

I am getting nice & confused about the e mail set up options.. I would appreciate any help.

I work from home & use a webmail service (1&1.co.uk) to provide me with a work e mail address. On my home desktop, Its configured to Outlook Express, & if I need to use another PC away from home, I access it though 1 & 1 website.

I want to acess my work e mail address through my Blackberry, but there are 3 set up options & i am confused as to which one.

Blackberry Internet Service option- It says I can set up a blackberry e mail address for my device & also associate the device with up to 10 existing e mail addresses.

Blackberry Enterprise server option- It says I can associate the device with a microsoft outlook work e mail account. It talks about geting passwords from your sysytem administrator, so i dont think thats the one

Blacberry Desktop Redirector option- It says that by installing Blackberry Desktop Software & selecting redirector option, but I need to keep computer turned on to receive messages.

At 1st I was leaning towards this option, but now I am thinking of the 1st one...
AAAAGH!

Confusing, isn't it? Taking these options one at a time:

o Blackberry Enterprise server (also known as "BES")

You'd select that when you're running a mail server such as Microsoft Exchange and install a Blackberry Enterprise Server PC next to it to talk to lots of Blackberries. As you haven't done that, it's not that option for you.

o Blackberry Desktop Redirector

This runs on the same PC as you have your email client on. It basically "redirects" mail out to the Blackberry. It's not ideal, as you'd need to have your home PC turned on all the time. This leaves...

o Blackberry Internet Service (also known as "BIS")

Here you configure an email address with on provider's web site (presumably your curve came with some "set up some email here" stuff?). You can then configure up to 10 email addresses - these must be accessible via methods such as IMAP. I'm sure that 1&1 will support this.

FWIW O2's BIS setup site is www.o2email.co.uk, and Voda's is www.mobileemail.vodafone.net. Not sure about the others, but if your SIM is with someone else I'm sure google will find it.

I got there in the end... I easily set up my personal e mails, but I couldn't get it to configure my work address via 1 & 1.

I decided to amend my 1 & 1 to forward to the vodafone mobile address, which worked OK, except any replies to forwarded mail would come from the mobile e mail address (I always think that looks naff)

I had one last go yesterday at setting the 1 & 1 address & lo & behold... it worked!
Maybe my pudgy little fingers were making me press wrong keys before, but wheh I was calm & relaxed the next day, it worked!

I'm having problems setting up my hotmail account. I give my account name and password and it tells me it cannot configure the details.

When I try and input the details manually it tells me that some details are incorrect. I don't know my email server so my question is this...

can anyone help me please?????

PS I really am as stupid as it gets about this sort of stuff.

I have an bb8310 which was given to me. I thought it would be a good idea to use it for work. Unfortunately I was then told that I need bes to access the Internet and pick up email. I was told that this service would cost me £25 per month and restrict me to 6mbs download per month.(by our internal mobile phone providers) This sounds v.expensive. I spoke to vodafone who said I can have the service for£10 per month but as my sim is on a corporate account they can not add it. Is there anyway of getting the Internet on this phone without spending £25 per month which my boss will say no to anyway?

Surely this should be in the mobile phone forum?
