I like Kenco (the one with the blue lid - rich roast?). Also, Whittard's rich hazelnut is delicious and makes a nice change from regular instant coffee.

I like to use Rombouts (or the supermarket own brand ones which are cheaper) - real coffee, no faff - much, much better tasting than instant - very easy and very portable (if you are in work).
Ok, if you drink gallons its going to be expensive - I think it works out at about 15p a cup. but for one or two a day, its ok. (I tried Lyons coffee bags, but they weren't very good, i didn't think. ) |

Not convinced there's such a thing as good instant coffee. Not sure why people bother with it when you can make a speedy decent cup of the real stuff with a cafetiere anyway. There's a reason why many places in the world don't even count the instant stuff as coffee

I like Carte Noir - although that said, I haven't tried Alta Rica, I tend to stick to the Carte Noir out of habit as much as anything.

NESCAFÉ Cap Colombie and Alta Rica were my favorites before I started drinking ground coffee.
*note, I drank ground coffee for a couple of years, one day made some instant and couldn't drink it. Even drinking Alta Rica tastes like crap and used to love it once. Hence drinking ground coffee all the time changed my taste buds. |

Bumpy bump. I've recently got into drinking coffee and really have no idea which is the best. I like mild coffee and also Decaf would be ideal. I'm currently road-testing M&S Cafe Gold Decaf and Clipper Medium Roast Decaf, neither of which I'm enamoured by. So do I need to spend a bit more money or are there some tastier alternatives out there yet to be discovered?

I've always liked Kenco, and thats what i tend to buy at home / work. I also like Millicano coffee (which is also made by Kenco) but its a lot smoother.

Is Kenco reasonably priced? Never even heard of Millicano, will have to keep a look out for that one! and what does it mean when coffee is described as "smooth" etc?
Edited to say, I only tend to drink the Millicano for a treat as it is quite expensive. It is my sunday cup. I have just had a look on Sainbsury and Kenco is about £3,25/100g (unless you get a refil which brings it down to £1.78/100g). Millicano is £4.19 for the same amount, but they have started doing refils which makes it cheaper. |
