Hi there. We are currently looking for a home cinema system for the living room and have come across some models which are 'DVD receivers.' Does anyone know what this means? Thanks if anyone can help.

The "receiver" bit means that the unit has a DVD player and home cinema receiver/amplifier integrated as a one-box solution.

A neat and simple solution but it may pose difficulties if you want to add other devices to it such as Sky+, SkyHD or a HD/Blu-ray player in the future.

A Receiver is just an Amplifier with a Radio Tuner added for convenience.

It could well be this we have an older Sony system which is exactly that a DVD Player/Dolby System and Radio combined.
