I received a 5.1 speaker system for christmas, the only problem is that my t.v dvd and pvr all have phono outputs only. is there anything on the market that enables me to convert twin phono lead into one suitable for the speakers.

You can only get 5.1 in two ways:

1. A digital out socket (optical or coaxial) on the source to a similar socket on the sound system

2. 6 x phono on the source to 6 x phono on the sound system if the source has an onboard 5.1 decoder.

If the tv, DVD and PVR only have stereo phono outputs, you will only get Dolby Surround at best; you will not get 5.1.
